Or... maybe Don is staring at the psychedelic imagery and realizing he needs to keep up with the times! Since he's been thrown out of Sterling/Cooper/Draper/Price, maybe he's the one who finds a way to transition through the end of the 1960s, leaving everybody else behind. Don's been able to become a chameleon before and change in order to survive; it won't be the first time.

    LOL

Nah, Don will kill Manolo by throwing him off a ship and then assume his identity.

New promo shots. Conspicuous by his absence here is Bob Benson...

I dunno, I wouldn't read too much into Bob's absence in the promo shots. I mean, is he really a major enough character to justify his inclusion?? It's debatable.

He certainly was a more major character than Harry Crane or Henry Francis last season...

True, but those are characters that have been around for multiple seasons now.

The actor who plays Bob was credited as a guest star last season and must still be one this season, so he's not there.

He's now a cast member on that Robin Williams show so I don't know how available he was for Mad Men.

I would say he was more major than Jim Cutler, who was also new last year, but is in the picture.

The latest issue of Paris Review has one of it's "Art of Screenwriting" interviews with Matthew Weiner.

"Everyone loves the Horatio Alger version of life. What they don’t realize is that these transformations begin in shame, because poverty feels shameful ... these men don’t take no for an answer, they build these big businesses, these empires, but really it’s all based on failure, insecurity, and an identity modeled on some abstract ideal of white power. I’ve always said this is a show about becoming white."

On the plus side, at least creepy Glen and his mustache isn't in the photo.

All of the press I have seen for this keeps stating that this is "the final season" with no mention of the fact that it is being split in two. Are they just going to market it as a single season with one really long break in the middle? If I was a casual fan and didn't already know they were splitting it, I would definitely be under the impression right now that this was going to be a regular 13-episode run, with no break.

That was my thought too. It sure looks like Sal, and that makes me happy.

Assuming Sal is returning (which it looks like he is), it seems odd that he's not in the main promo photo of the cast. Maybe he'll just appear in an episode or two in order to give his character a proper sendoff.

That's an old promo photo. Note Don and Betty being together and Pete's full head of hair, no newer cast members...
