I think she's going more for that look of Daryl Hannah in Kill Bill.

Except for the Thompson Twins, he pretty much ruined them.

The criticism was about her performance of Like A Prayer. I am not sure if she hit any two consecutive notes in key, and sometimes she was a half tone flat for a whole line.

Credit where it's due - it can't be easy to walk down all those stairs, especially without the advantage of depth perception.

No, they're complaining about the song she was out of tune, of course.

I would much rather Madonna hit the occasional duff note, a human flaw than have an over reliance using that ghastly auto tune. That device is for far less talented "singers". She should stop attempting to be fashionably relevant though. Over the past decade It's certainly had detrimental impact on her legacy.
As for UK get Chris Martin to compose a song. The one he wrote by proxy for The Netherlands did fairly well!.

What is her best album really and what is the criteria for that? It’s all opinion. That said the video posted in this thread is the same old garbage autotune guest rapper crap That is so prevalent in pop these days. What was great about “old” Madonna is it sounded uniquely her. And she’s been so desperate to become relevant again that she’s lost her individuality and instead accomplished the exact opposite.

Credit for not JLo-ing it and lip syncing the song.

Innocuous. Pretentious and sooo stoopid, but innocuous.

I didn't mind her imperfect vocal on Like A Prayer. It's not as if most of this forums sacred cows have always sounded perfect live. I found the new arrangement of it boring and the second song with that guest bellend and vile autotune far worse. I can totally accept flawed singing.

Ouch. Oh my goodness that is painful. She is under it the whole time. Very poor.

But she’s such an artist...I think she was doing Jo Stafford doing Darlene Edwards! Now that’s talent!

well, Like A Prayer and Ray Of Light are both considered artistic peaks and usually are the only albums of hers that may turn up on "Best albums" lists. Like A Virgin was a fun pop album but not that far fetched from what Spice Girls, Britney and others would strike gold with down the line. Like A Prayer was post-divorce from Sean Penn and Ray Of Light was after she became a first time mother and those albums reflected those events in the music and made critics who dismissed her as a lightweight pop tart stood up and took her seriously. Even albums like Erotica, Music, American Life (a huge bomb but many fans love it), Confessions and others perhaps weren't as revelatory as those two, but are generally considered higher quality albums than Like A Virgin. Even True Blue's singles have held up better IMO. IMO, Like A Virgin wasn't even as good as what Cyndi Lauper and Tina Turner had on the charts at the same time, and I say that as someone who considers Madonna his favorite female artist.

No that's not the reason. It's not a European competition, but a competition of EBU members, some of which are outside Europe. Israel is not a European country for example but they've taken part regularly and won several times. Morocco also took part once. Australia is an associate member of EBU.

The weird baritone fake monk choir and their out of tune arrangement makes her sound even worse. Plus, she got winded walking down the steps while singing. She should lower it a key and put in a full backing band and she'd be mediocre instead of bad.

A badly balanced monitor mix or the in ear monitor being set too loud or too soft may cause pitch issues as well. There could be lots of reasons why her performance was off.

I notice they fixed it for Madonna's Youtube channel.. :D

But it was the occasional duff note - it was the entire fricking song.

She gets a 1 point bonus for NOT lip synching.
And after hearing it, she gets a 2 point deduction for NOT lip synching.
