Is the mono single version of Steppenwolf's "Magic Carpet Ride" on the MCA Vintage Music Vol. 9 & 10 CD? Or is the Dick Bartley "On The Radio Vol. 1" the best quality you can get for the original hit single version?

No, it's in stereo and the first time the actual master tape was used.

Also includes "Born To Be Wild" without the fade. It ends just like it did on the session.

The Mono single version of MCR, you could certainly edit down and fold from this...Not a fan of the single version since they really hacked into it....

Correct and, the master tape was tossed many years ago. Yes, the "hit" version. The Bartley disc contains the "hit" version...

My Dunhill 45 has nothing sonically above 5,000 cycles; one of the worst sounding 45's I own. Great version though..

Grant Life is a rock, but the radio rolled me!

The actual single version is only on the original mono ABC/Dunhill 45 and Varese Vinatge's Dick Bartley's "On The Radio" volume 1. CD.

I love the single mix, as it is very different.

  9. Exactly, mine too. Why would they master this in this way?????

I'd like to say the answer is: it was mastered this way for AM Radio airplay. Actually, I have no idea why this really occurred on this track.

    Bob
