"Hip Priest" was even in The Silence of the Lambs :)

Spent today reading more of MES's autobiography and blasting Fall from various eras. I'll be honest, the music sometimes doesn't resonate, though I also have my favourites that very much do (and I always find the lyrics fascinating) : I just don't think much has dated, which is terrific. Obviously, I'm quite guitar/ band oriented as a listener, anyway.

That quality is usually, in my book, a sign of real songwriting, or at least artistic, class - timelessness.

I've spent a good hunk of my time on earth listening to Fall records. Was lucky enough to see them several times, the first being the same matinee performance @Tanx saw at the Rat. I got it. I haven't played any Fall records in a while and don't really feel like doing so now. I played this record instead, I figured Mark would like it if he came over for a beer. From "Thanks for the Miles"

it was THEN, that I knew the end was near...... NOT for MES...for ALL OF US!!!

An absolute legend......aside from his biography I would recommend the following
The Big Midweek - Steve hanley
The rise, the fall and the rise - Brix Smith
    The Fallen - Dave simpson
    The Fall -mick middles

Impossible to choose tracks / albums ....but right now , typing this
Leave the Capital - from Slates
Paintwork - from this nation’s saving grace
Cheetham hill - light user syndrome
    I am kurious oranj

While everyone is in Fall listening mode/MES mourning, I recommend checking out these two Fall special broadcasts from Brian Turner at WFMU from 2015. Part 1 has a Stephen Hanley interview, Part 2 has Marc Riley and Brix. Both 3 hours, lots of cool live stuff etc ...

    Part 1:
THE FALL: Part 1 of 2 Special w/ live recordings, Interview with STEPHEN HANLEY plus SPECTRE FOLK live in studio: Brian Turner's show

    Part 2:
THE FALL: Part 2 of 2 Special w/ live recordings, Interview with MARC RILEY plus BRIX SMITH START : Brian Turner's show

Hmmmm.... at least the music is still here. And that gap in my Fall collection too....

The typical thing to do now would be to dive deep into thE bay and overpay for records I didn't care about when they were still easily available:righton:

I'd still want "Code: Selfish" though ....

I have the best of the fontana years cd (for me the most accesible one) every household should at least have one Fall collection:)
What alway makes me smile are the sharp clever and sometimes hilarious album titles : your future our clutter , new facts emerge etc..

One of my favourites is the back cover of Slates and the description of Prole Art Threat:

"Starring 'gent' and 'man' in Asda mix-up spy thriller" :)

I never liked his music much, but being a first hour uk punk fan it´s like I knew him well.
I remember when bingo masters breakout was just released. I´m old...
Some years ago I was in London walking past a hotel when I saw him at the stairs, I looked at him he looked at me and he noticed I recognized him, he looked fine but his eyes were like ´help me´. I remember thinking I´m taller than is, he´s so small...
