Fair use wouldn't apply - they'd have to omit that. Even if they got permission (highly doubtful) they'd have to pay through the nose for it.

there are so many clips to choose from that didn't have music though.....if this was a dvd box set of everything id understand (and buy it! I need the early years/cinemax years....I have it all on dvr but quality is rough)

Sadly, it's clear there's not nearly enough demand for that set to be profitable.

If Shout couldn't turn a profit on the prior sets - which were of the series' "prime years" and came out when DVD sales were booming - there's just no way a release from the obscure Cinemax years will make money.

The series' pre-NBC years would sell better, IMO, but still not enough to make it worthwhile for Shout...

From what I recall there were a few clips where they sang famous songs (sorry, I don't want to spoil them because it's rude to spoil and secondly, I'm still hopeful it will get released). There's also one song which is the original recording.

It seems Scorsese's focus right now is the upcoming Dylan documentary and The Irishman with Robert De Niro.

I am sure there are other worthy songs, but the one that I think you would HAVE to include is from the "Pre-teen World" telethon where John Candy, Rick Moranis, and Eugene Levy perform as the Recess Monkeys and play what was then a current hit Canadian song, which I won't name. It shouldn't be hard or expensive to license, though.

Why won't you name it? Does it spoil the joke? After all, in Canada 30 years ago, ANY Canadian song could be a hit. :)

Another poster mentioned not including spoilers on songs, so I took note of that.

He didn't want to spoil songs they performed at the "reunion show".

Naming the song on "Pre-Teen World" doesn't spoil anything that happened at that show.

    I don't think mentioning a TV performance from 30-something years ago = a "spoiler"...

It took them 18 months to edit the Ron Howard Eight Days a Week Beatles movie, and that was with six or seven editors and an army of post-production technicians.

I love how the bass drum has the writing on it and they realized they had to squeeze an S at the end. Realistic.

It's all good but I especially like two things in this skit:
John Candy's nervous breathing causing him to not sing parts of the song
The end where either two of them or all three of them are singing different verses and then they bring it together for the last three words.

I miss SCTV so this documentary is an opportunity to go back and be with it again probably one last time.

What the heck ever happened to this???

Nothing about "An Afternoon with SCTV" has been updated since the middle of 2018.
