Someone put Big Iron on the jukebox at the bar the other night. I couldn't believe it. I asked him how he knew that song as he's only 26. I believe he said it was in a movie or TV show. But I told him the whole album was amazing and I thanked him for choosing it.

I have the 1999 legacy reissue and I think it sounds great, also Mr. Palmaccio is one of Sony's better mastering engineers.

Palmaccio is the Bill Inglot of Sony. He favors nasty bright eq choices.

Compare the Essential Marty Robbins Palmaccio did back in the 80s or 90s with the more recent one by Anesini. The latter is far superior because it's easier on the ears.

Oh I didn't know this reissue existed until now and I'm about to be $25 poorer. But I'm seriously bummed the magenta version is sold out.

I LOVE this album, and being an El Paso-raised boy I can tell you Marty was our hero. The song was so good and he appreciated our city's love so much he even made us a sequel.

Fortunately a few years later I actually heard Marty Robbins and found out that he wasn't a Country artist but a Western artist.
Up to then I never realized there was an actual difference as the genre was always lumped together, Country & Western or Country\Western.
Ribbon of Darkness, Singin' the Blues, El Paso blew my mind. Really unique music and that voice, such power, range, clarity & control.
The Johnny Cash show really opened up my eyes at 13. Neil Young, Derek & the Dominoes, Bob Dylan and the non-rock guests.
Johnny loved good music no matter what type.

Oddly enough, Hee-Haw clued me in a bit on Buck Owens and his sound.

For those that have access to GET TV (over the air sub-channel) the J Cash show with Marty Robbins & Glen Campbell will run this Sunday evening 10/21

Love me some Marty, who my grandparents adored, all the way through his final recordings. Adios Amigo, anybody?

Funny. I'm a big fan of Marty Robbins & early Gordon Lightfoot.
Even though I have the 1st 3 albums & CDs by Gordon Lightfoot, for some I thought Ribbon of Darkness was written by Robbins.
    Man.
The thing is Gordon's voice early on was very much like Marty's.
Large range, clear voice with a beautifully controlled vibrato.
    Also love Ian & Sylvia.

I bought the CD in 2001 just to have El Paso and was rewarded with a great album.

In my personal top 10 albums, and easily one of my top 5 C&W albums.

Brilliant album and "Saddle Tramp" is one of his best at writing.

An original 59', sure bet there's not many of those around sealed now.
The price is a bit ridiculous anyway.

Thanks Fallout: New Vegas for introducing me to 'Big Iron', which kicks so much butt.

No. That is a rarity for sure. I all but gave up on seeing one of those. Thanks for the temptation. I may go for it. What the heck it's only a divorce. :D

Anyone else care to comment on this pressing?

I have an original Columbia six eye mono that sounds incredible but I wish was a little cleaner. Wondering if it's worth picking up the mono reissue.

One of the greatest albums of all time and one of my absolute favorites. Find a 6 eye mono if you can. Magic.

How about posting a list of CDs mastered by Joe Palmaccio and CDs mastered by Bill Inglot that have led you to your opinion?

Because I have too many of their CDs to count and there isn't so much as one mastered by either that causes me any problems.

Inglot bashing does seem to be a bit of an obsession with you. Just saying.
