I love this magnificent album so much so currently I have 3 cds of Gunfighter ballads and trail songs.

I have the 1989 cd US issue (white cover) that You mention, I love the sound, excellent DR ,smooth sound, you can listen with high volume and enjoy from the music without getting unpleasant feeling.

I have the 1999 remastered cd Columbia, Legacy which I also like ,the sound have more body and nice clarity ,the cd has more compression than the 1989 cd but still nice DR

    I also have the
Gunfighter ballads and trail songs 2012 Remastered ( Hoodoo records) which includes also the tracks from More Gunfighter ballads and trail songs + bonus tracks . This is the louder cd between the 3 and the brighter

I think you can say that I like the album:)

P.S I also have More Gunfighter ballads and trail song original cd ( pre-remastered) by HALLMARK

This is so confusing,I don't see any mention on the 1989 US cd of Stereo but I want to be totally sure,How can I check it? the 1999 cd has the mention of stereo and also on the Hoodoo records cd

Can you play it? The Stereo is quite 'panned' Left and Right.
    Compare these two.
    The Mono I just uploaded:

or does it sound more like this:
Marty Robbins - El Paso (Audio)

    as @onlyacanvasky said earlier,
"As a result the stereo runs about 4:26, the mono 4:38-4:40ish."

This is very interesting, EL Paso on the USA 1989 cd is 4:24! the same length on the other stereo cds,the 1999 remastered and the 2012 Hoodoo records cd ... so the USA cd must be the Stereo right? it's sounds actually with more open sound than the mono version

I can also upload EL paso from the USA cd 1989 and share a link with the forum members by mediafire so everyone will be able to listen

onlyacanvasky Your guess is as good as mine.

To be clear, the 1996 twofer has the channels reversed. The 1999 remaster is correct. And the mono mix is absolutely dedicated.

I am really excited this thread took off. Until now, I was only peripherally aware of the 1989 CD versions of Gunfighter Ballads..., American and Australian. An interesting question is whether the 1989 American version, which is apparently in stereo, has the same mastering as that on the 1996 set, which contains both Gunfighter Ballads... and More Gunfighter Ballads... In this regard, I am going to extract some peak levels from the 1996 version when I have a chance and post them here. If someone could do the same for the 1989 American stereo version, that would be great. In this way, people would know whether it is a waste of time to hunt down the earlier or later version, depending on what they currently have.

    Well, now it gets interesting.

Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Songs/More Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Songs, Columbia, 1996, 484033 2 (23 tracks total)

EAC (Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Songs, tracks 1-12): 94.5/92.8/81.9/79.5/76.3/77.2/88.2/77.2/82.8/94.4/89.6/93.1

These sure look quite different from what you posted. I believe all tracks are in the same sequence given what I see in Discogs. Anyway, we seem to be looking at very different mastering here.

Included below are the peak levels for the second album as well, for anyone who would like to know, that is.

EAC (More Gunfighter Ballads..., tracks 13-23): 82.9/82.2/56.1/83.3/84.5/75.6/67.3/89.3/76.7/64.8/75.8

Thank you for the peak levels of the 96 =2 titles. It is very interesting.
I start to think that It would be a good idea to involve Sherlock Holmes,
this is a complex mystery here...

So we have three distinct stereo masters of Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Songs and one mono one up through the 1999 remaster. Blast! This probably means, at minimum, I will have to lay my hands on the 1989 stereo version to make some comparisons. I have a notion, however, that it might be better than the 1996 version. Just a hunch, though. And then there's the mono version...
