And here's are a couple of near-rave reviews of the film from the new Hollywood Reporter and Variety...

"Whether it's exploding into large-scale production numbers or closing in on intimate scenes of a family in crisis, the sequel captivates by adopting a time-honored Disney formula that combines the joy and imagination of childhood with an underlay of melancholy. Its old-fashioned, honest sentimentality plasters a smile across your face and plants a tear in your eye, often simultaneously. All that should make this a winning family entry for the holidays and a repeat-viewing favorite for years to come. "
    'Mary Poppins Returns': Film Review

"...a rapturous piece of nostalgia — a film that devotes itself, in every madly obsessive frame, to making you feel happy in the guileless way a movie still could back in 1964."

OK Vidiot. You've convinced me with your review and the others you've posted. And the wife wants to see it too! (We see maybe one or two movies at the theater per year. This will be one of those.)

Reviewer at Blu-Ray.com just gave it 6/10. Makes me wonder what frame of mind one would be in.

Same here, we have tickets for 12/23. We're Disney film buffs and we're jazzed about this movie.:)

If it's mediocre, then it's mediocre.

The mix was very, very good -- Oscar-worthy.

    Currently 77% on Rotten Tomatoes...

And here's a 10-minute behind-the-scenes "B-roll" piece. Be warned that it will tip you off to a few surprised in the film.

Which is good but not great - certainly not "uniform rave" territory.

I'll see it but I can't claim to be excited about it.

I'm astounded to see that "Bumblebee" is at 97% on RT! Not a single "Transformers" movie scored above 58% - and 3 of the 5 are under 20%. (The 5th is at 35%.)

The animated Spidey movie is at 98%, too!

Yes, I was surprised that the Bumblebee ratings were as high as it is. Some reviews have said, "this is better than any of Michael Bay's versions of Transformers," which is either high praise or low praise, depending on how you look at it.

Vickie is excited about it because of the director, Travis Knight who did Kubo and the Two Strings.

It's on a couple art house screens here, but I'm just not jazzed enough to bother to venture to one of those.

If it hit a closer-to-home AMC I'd go, but otherwise, it can wait for Blu-ray...

I'm guessing the overall %age will drop once more reviews come in, but it's still shocking - and with 33 total reviews right now, it's not like it's gotten only a handful.

I initially figured "Bumblebee" would bomb because of "Transformers" fatigue and all the competition at the same time frame, but now I'm less sure. It might do decently well!

As long as Dick Van Dyke isn't in it, it has to be better than the original. Julie Andrews always got on my nerves, too. Love Dick on his tv show, but never liked him in the movies. That face and that clowning wasn't meant for the 40-ft screen. I'd repeat what Truman Capote said about Julie Andrews, but I'd get banned.

 Almost everything I watch is on disc and I watch for reviews. Paying for streaming would be stupid since I'd never have time to use it!

Again, too bad. Lots of great stuff on streaming & the pay channels. I watched all of last years Oscar nominated films via those services.

Err, you know I could get a streaming service if I chose to do so, but I choose not to pay for it, right?

"Too bad" implies I'm somehow unable to get Netflix.

Writing reviews takes up all my screentime. I have no time to stream...
