ive read that the 2013 and 2014 reissue on vinyl of Mezzanine are pretty damn good. However, which one do I go for? 2013 or 2014?

Buy either. They are both the same Abbey Road mastering and, from memory, I think they are both pressed at Optimal. There's no meaningful difference - same standard sleeves and inners.

I've only heard the reissue (2014) I have and it sounds great! Can't speak for any comparison though...

My copy from amazon.co.uk from 2015 (I would guess this is the 2014 release) is a little snap crackle poppy but it sounds decent in the mastering.

Isn't it meant to be? I have it on cd and it also has the snap, crackle, pop. Same with Portishead's 'Dummy'. It was a bit of a thing at the time.

As a massive fan of The Cure I've never picked up on the sample from 10:15 Saturday night in The Man Next Door.. I hold my head in shame :)

Probably because they were sampling crackly old vinyl, perhaps?

Geoff Barrow recorded a lot of material, cut it to vinyl and then sampled his original material from that.

I have no idea which issue it was that I picked up at Barnes & Noble today. All I know is:

    1. It was made in the EU
    2. HOLY CRAP DOES IT SOUND GREAT!

Tangent: I discovered this album the way a lot of people did...due to Teardrop being the theme song to House M.D. That said, I really wish I'd discovered the record when it came out back in 1998. It would have blown my 19 year-old mind.

Agree totally with everyone’s sentiment - 2014 EU is insanely good

Yeah the Mezzanine vinyl issue is spectacular. I bought a second copy to archive.

Hey team - I’m pretty new to this forum. But random question on this stream. Does anyone know how to differentiate between the Original Mezzanine vinyl release and later years reissues? Thanks

Take a look at the release details on Discogs. Matrix info is different and possibly UPC numbers as well.

I think the Mezzanine re-release is the same whichever year, the later just a reissue, so you should be good to go with either (and it is very good to go!).

Was the original mastered at Abbey Road?

Just saw new copies in Amoeba today during Black Friday - had the “Made in Germany” sticker on the back. I haven’t seen it in there for some time, so assume this must be a new Optimal pressing. I picked it up, and will report back when I get my rig set up again.

Is the 2017 reissue the same pressing as the 2013/14 (Abbey Road Mastering)? It says cut by Tim Young, who of course, is a seasoned pro (The Clash - London Calling UK pressing). Edit: Looks like Tim Young cut the original and these are likely just the same liner notes. Not sure if Tim even cuts vinyl anymore. The deadwax markings look different on the 2017 from the 2013/14 according to Discogs.

I wonder if it matters as they are both being cut from a presumably the same high resolution vinyl master. It appears Acoustic Sounds has the 2014 version according to the the UPC listed. I imagine Amazon is carrying the 2017 version.

    Any feedback would be appreciated.
