Mes amis do you have any tips that you could share on means that you have found useful in getting the moment right when listening to music. It's now getting to the time of day here when the sun is going down but I haven't switched the lights on - my favo(u)rite time of day for listening - when it gets that little bit darker it will be just perfect. I also have a couple of "Power" chairs and I sit in one of these for the serious stuff - they are reclineable and I like to get it so I am looking straight at the tweeters (don't know why but I feel better when I do this). I'd be interested to hear what works for you. Take care - Andrew
For starters gettin' the wife and kids out of the house works for me. Especially when I'm doin' any CD-R burning. Need my concentration.
Maybe I'm influentiable (is that a word?) but I have a keener apreciation when I have made, read or heard comments about a particular opus. Recently we discussed top albums and I mentioned Exile on MSt. I later sat and listened to it and enjoyed it profoundly. It also works the other way: If I make a comment about an album I tend to block myself of newer, undiscovered facets. I hipnotize myself on the piece being what I said at the time and no more. I believe forums like these are likely to do more harm than good to our musical enjoyment.
I warm up the system, turn down the lights, get my favorite drink and/or herbal medication, relax, then listen to some "warm-up" laid back music at low levels. Then gradually increase the levels until I reach the appropriate "balls-to-the-wall" level (#11 on the volume pot).
Re: Re: Maximising listening pleasure Almost forgot. Playing Steve's remasters always maximises listening pleasure!!!
Sorry Pablo I can't agree on this one. I've learned a ton of stuff about the music I already loved, such as which issues to get, which ones to avoid, etc. My ears were trained with the help a lot of members opinions and most of all by Steve himself. Now I'm able to pass the knowledge along to other new audiophiles.
If you have a separate listening room, closing and locking the door usually works fine and gets the message across.
Well...That's about how aggressive I feel today. I don't want others to know otherwise I'll become Shark-bait.
I find that listening in the dark is the one think that really heightens my sense of hearing. It precludes any visual distractions and lets me focus totally on the music being reproduced. Of course it also means that unless your significant other is up for the same experience, you'll be on your own. This can be a good or bad thing depending on your circumstances at the time.
If it can be accomplished without causing anyone discomfort, turning of any distractions such as the noise caused by furnace or air conditioning fans can help.
I turn out the lights, switch on the blacklight to illuminate the "How do I love thee, Let me count the ways" poster, and turn on the strobe light, and lay back on my beanbag and...oops, wrong decade!! Nevermind.
For some reason I find music sounds better in the evening; more natural and less harsh compared to morning or mid day listening. Lance Hall
Apparently after peak industrial use during daytime working hours, the delivered power is 'cleaner'. This is not just theory, it is supposed to be a measurable phenomenon.
