Yup another McCartney thread! But, if anyone’s earned the right to create one, I think I have, since I started the McCartney news thread a few years back, and that’s prevented hundreds of needless threads since! So there! Anyway, lots of purchasers of Paul’s new singles box, and lots of interest in what “test pressing” came with boxes! If we follow this template, we might note some patterns and maybe even help a few folks trade (?) for a more desired single. So, let’s post what country you’re in, what Box number you have, and what test pressing you received. It might be interesting to state how pleased you are with your random selection, and what ones were most/least wanted by you. One last suggestion, and everyone won’t do this (they won’t read the OP), but if enough of you do, it would be interesting: Post which sequential member you are to post in the thread with your box details. This will tell us how many of the boxes were purchased by SHF members. That’s an interesting data point, isn’t it? Example: I’m in the US. My box is #1339 and my test pressing is “New/Early Days”. I’m #1 to post details here (I suspect we could have hundreds). If, when you post your details, you see #14 posted followed by two others who didn’t put their sequential numbers, you could do the math and say, you’re #17. Why do I care about this? I’m just curious what kind of “purchasing power” the SHF forum has with MPL. It might not work, but *might* be interesting!
The things you often see on this forum: members having to kind of "beg permission" to start threads about certain artists/bands just because said artists/bands are too popular on the forum. You sort of have to apologise for starting such threads because some members here are sooo sensitive... Sorry. Carry on...
I'll add that I'm pretty happy with "New" as my TP; I have a very fond memory of hearing that single for the first time, while I was out with a good friend and I saw a link from this forum that I played on my phone. Fun time. I don't know that there would be a "favorite" of mine. Kintyre/Girls' School, Temporary Secretary, Find My Way - those all would have been equally loved. I'd have been less than pleased with Mary Had a Little Lamb, the Classical one, or Nod Your Head.
I'm in the US. My box is #1031 and my test pressing is "Young Boy/Looking for You". I'm #2 to post details here. I'm really happy with the one I got - as a younger fan, this is the era I was surrounded with as a child so it is the most sentimental to me. My dad is a huge fan and I remember he gave me the Oobu Joobu promo disc Best Buy gave out with Flaming Pie, I listened to it a lot. Yeah, a TP from one of the 70s heavy hitters would've been great, but this is honestly the most personal one I could have received so it's perfect.
I'm in the US and I got box #695. The test pressing I got is Figure Of Eight, which I initially felt kinda "meh" about until I remembered it was the first song at my first Paul concert in Chicago in 1989. Looks like I'm #3.
#448, USA Stranglehold/Angry Am perfectly fine with that test pressing but 1st choice would've been Another Day/Oh Woman Oh Why. Any other 70s track in 2nd.
Looks like I’m #9 Box: 1416 Test pressings: My Valentine Location: US I’m kinda “meh” about it. I’d have wanted one from Flaming Pie, then Flowers then Off the Ground.
#11 to post. St. Louis, USA. Box # 0333/3000 Test pressing: only love remains Not thrilled with that TP. I love the B side but the single isn't much for me. And it's from my least favorite Macca album. I'm trying to work out a trade now. My least wanted TP's would have been: Mary had a little lamb Helen wheels Let em in Mull/girls Wonderful Christmastime My valentine Or the live, classical or covers My most desired: Jet Junior's farm Listen to what .... Letting go Goodnight tonight Old Siam ... My brave face Beautiful night From a lover ... #1 most desired was: (I Want To) Come Home
13th #1479 California USA TP Birthday Interesting thread, glad to be able to see where these sets all went, and how many of us got one. Much more interesting than another unboxing video.
