Some very patient people went to the trouble of researching which songs on the Back in the U.S. CD came from which shows. I had nothing to do with any of this. I'm just passing along the info.

    Mr Carrot,

Do you know if Paul touched up any of the songs in the studio?

Isn't amazing that an artist of McCartney's statue can't perform a concert that in its entirety is worthy of release?

Since he obviously had all (or most) of the shows recorded, why didn't he make CDs available, as The Who and other artists have. He could have used the CDs to raise money for charity.

I'll stick with my audience recordings!

I believe he actually has released a single concert in its entirety, and it wasn't so long ago... the 1999 Cavern Club performance, which is available on DVD.

That's because he's a perfectionist. He trys to use the most perfectly performed/recorded versions.

He has never, to my knowledge, released a live recording that wasn't sweetened or fixed in the studio. To me that makes him dishonest, not a perfectionist. You can be a perfectionist and not be dishonest. Many people have criticized Paul in the past for "over producing" some of his studio LPs. Being a perfectionist can have its drawbacks.

I'm very critical of Paul but I love his music!

I'd rather listen to almost any of the live audience recordings I have of his 2002 - 2003 tour (and I have almost every show) than the officially released live CD.

Well, Pearl Jam - the kings of official bootlegs - released a live album in '98 that was patched together from different shows. It's terrific!

I like it when live albums are hodge-podges from different shows.

Zappa used the piecemeal approach on his three 1988 live CD's to great advantage - and they boast "no overdubs". It is more jarring, however, when Zappa cuts from one year to another, like on his Stage series.

I think the overdubbing of live material is only dishonest if you're presenting it as a "live" album, and not something "new" a'la Zappa or Neil Young or The Dead or REM. "Basic Tracks Recorded Live"

Some bands overdubbed their live tapes out of necessity (Kiss), but sometimes it just wasn't necessary (vocals on Who "Live At Leeds" expanded editions).

How are you defining "sweetened or fixed"? Does remixing count as "sweetened or fixed"?
