Media Mail has been remarkably fast lately

Here is my latest, hasn't scanned anywhere since it departed Rockaway, NJ on April 22nd.

Our local post office has two trailers of overflow mail to be sorted for delivery and we are in the outer suburbs. Order music from Chicago or Detroit using media mail and don’t be surprised if it sits there uncharted for a month or more.

 

The S.F./Chicago/N.J./Miami transfer places have been the worst for decades. I think the Sopranos crew in lawn chairs around the construction site BSing and drinking coffee is the New Jersey facility

 

The current USPS Media Mail situation is one of the strangest things I have ever seen. I have had 3 recent packages through Shreveport delivered to me in Little Rock in 4 days or less. This one took 2 days:

I assume it was put on a plane and flown to Little Rock.

Now I have a buyer requesting a refund on this package, I suspect it is sitting in Memphis unscanned. Of course eBay estimated the package would be delivered by May 9.

After I had a media mail package take 42 days to go from Chattanooga, TN to Myrtle Beach, SC, I started requiring insurance on all sales. The funny thing is that it seems to speed up handling and no package has ended up sitting in a dead zone for a month or more without an update. Typically everything has arrived with 7-8 days, sometimes faster. Anyone who asks for lower shipping and no insurance is ignored, no sale. It’s not a business and I refuse to get stuck with both the cost of the lost item and the postage paid to send it.

 

I also had another package with stamps on but no tracking mailed but never received by the buyer. After a month or so, I issued a full refund. The package arrived several months later with the uncancelled stamps still on it. Since he had purchased the cd elsewhere by then, he put my mailing address over his and returned it to me.

What makes no sense to me is watching a tracked package bounce in the wrong direction across the state or even the country before arrival. The USPS has some major issues.

 

I opened a case with the USPS on this one and the reply I got was "it was last seen in NJ on April 22, you should contact the seller".
