Media Mail postage to Alaska, Hawaii: More expensive?

Does MM postage to AK and HI cost more than to the lower 48?
I realize it is probably slower; just wondering about any cost differentials

Substantially slower - like a month to get there.

 

I'd hate to use MM because of the extra time involved. If I ship to AK and HI I like to bump up the service to at least FCM and possibly PM box depending on the media sold.

If you are shipping vinyl I'd look into PM Cubic, it's about half the cost of regular PM.

The reason I ask is because in my offerings here I specify that MM postage costs $3 (or is included) within the CONUS.
But I wondered if that is a silly distinction. I've never sold an item to anyone in AK or HI, so to date it has not been an issue.
Just wanted to find out if I should just drop that proviso from my listings.

 

I think shipping to Hawaii/Alaska is cheaper than East Coast if you are sending from West coast..

 

I thought Media Mail was the same $ regardless of the distance involved.

 

Probably, Media Mail costs the same everywhere. Instead, offer to send anywhere by Priority Mail if the buyer wants to pay for it, with the rate to be determined depending on destination. I have sold things to both Hawaii and Alaska and buyers there always want Priority.

 

Media Mail is the same rate. US and possessions (Guam, PR, Marshall Islands). Just remember that they go on a slow boat, not truck.

When our unit got shipped back to the US from Vietnam I wanted to go on that slow boat. A two week trip.

 

With all that's going on today I wonder how long it takes items to get to these places now with Media mail.

 

From HI to me MM would be 2-3 weeks. It's about 7 days coast to coast.
