Regarding The Renegades, who shared the bill with The Undertakers and The Beatles at the Rock ‘n’ Twist Night...... The Renegades were a Wallasey-based group who formed in 1961. They comprised George Peckham on guitar/vocals, Dave Myers on lead guitar, Bob Evans on drums and Derek Peckham on bass guitar. Immediately following the Renegades, George became rhythm guitarist in Lee Curtis And The All Stars. The other members comprised Lee Curtis on vocals, Mushy Cooper on bass guitar, Paul Pilnick on lead and Don Alcyd on drums. Don left to join the Delmont Four and Paul to the Big Three. The record they cut at the time ‘What About Me?’ c/w ‘I’ve Got My Eyes On You’ was released on Decca F 11830 in February 1964. - Bill Harry, Mersey Beat, triumphed.com
When I lived in Southport in the early 1990s I used to tape Spencer's programme every Saturday lunchtime. I still have the tapes somewhere. Loads of great interviews, with "locals" like Faron, Bob Wooler, members of The Merseybeats, and also other names like Billy Eckstine, Gene Pitney (I think) and Dave Berry. I still have the cassettes somewhere. Spencer's enthusiasm knows no bounds.
That awesome @Wayfaring Stranger . Would love to hear some of those interviews some day. Sad to think how many folks Spencer has interviewed over the years who are no longer with us. Having those tapes is a treasure trove to Merseybeat fans.
