    Beatles syndrome?

As for MMM, is a masterpiece of avant-garde, drone, ambient-noise, whatever-you-call-it, very ahead of its time.

    ... obviously.

Mezbow gets plenty of respect and that's way more extreme than MMM.

Let's just say it was an amateurish avant garde work. If you want to listen to avant garde, listen to the best works of John Cage, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Iannis Xenakis etc.

Well, yes, but I'm not really expecting a dude from a rock band to be operating on the same level as those guys.

    or neither.

  7. I don't care for it much at home but seriously, I enjoy it in the car on a long drive... when I'm alone.

It wouldn't exist if it wasn't by Lou Reed, so I guess you are correct.

I like to listen to it while I surf the web. This thread made me put it on just now. Also, Lulu is a masterpiece, Metallica fans don't like it because it isn't Master Of Puppets II. It is a perfect Lou Reed album.

When I hear somebody exclaiming they don't like Metal Machine Music I know they're not in my tree, so to speak. Don't know if it's high or low, though. :)

But that album is the molten fusion core of electric guitar. I especially love how the harmonics start playing weird tricks on your ears after awhile.

I think it's simply Lou making sure he didn't become too popular. Sally Can't Dance hit the Top 10, and RCA was pressuring him for a quick follow-up. This is what they got.

unlistenable, right up there with Trout Masked Replica.

yup, I've tried both, more than once.

    Just my opinion.

I dont know about that. I wouldnt like it if it was done by Mozart or The Ramones or Bjork.

And yeah I'm a Lou Reed fan.

I think you should give it a chance. I own every Lou Reed album except MMM as well as 100s of concert recordings, but Mojo magazine put one part on their covermount Lou CD recently; I listened and enjoyed it, surprise. It's kind of meditative, not abrasive at all imho.

Has a polarizing effect. I think that's what Lou Reed was going for. So it's a success. A success i don't have time for.
A must have for pretentious record store clerks to clear out the lonely 40-somethings at night.

Metal Machine Music is the worst album I have ever heard. If there is worse I have never heard it.
