Could Metallica (or at least James) make a good country record? I mean Mama Said was such a killer tune. I totally gave up on them as a metal band but I think JH has a good country singer inside of him waiting to come out.

I would imagine such a concept might make Metallica sound even worse than Nickelback.

They should leave it as is. Adds to the surrealism.

  11. Could Hetfield theoretically pull it off? Yes, but he'd have to go 'all in' with outside writers and producers etc. and still keep it in a hard rock-ish vein, if possible. I imagine he'd alienate a lots of the hardcore fans that are left, but after Metallica did Lulu, who knows?

In my mind, the end product would sound something like a hard rock modern country Nickelback.

If he does, let's get Jason back in the saddle, and he can play pedal steel.

Metallica? No. James? Sure. He's a very talented songwriter so I don't see why he couldn't write a bunch of slow songs and have them be good. I'm strongly inclined to hope these would be 'slow' songs, not 'country' songs as I dislike modern country and am just ignorant of old country.

I don't think so. Even Load and Reload were too rootsy for Metallica albums IMO. I love roots rock, but I don't think it should be mixed with heavier genres of music.

I don't think at this stage of his career alienating fans is a real threat with a side project. Especially given that James is 54 years old and at their usual pace there won't be another Metallica album until around 2024. Surely he could do a side album within the next 6 years and it wouldn't move the Metallica needle one way or the other.

It's actually sad to me to think of a major song writer (which I consider James to be) putting out so few albums in their later years, particularly when money isn't any factor. There's no way something like this could cost a tenth of what their Through the Never film cost.

At this point he'd be better at that than drums.

    Metallica? Hell no!

I would actually be pretty interested to hear a James Hetfield solo album along the lines of Mama Said, Low Man's Lyric, Poor Twisted Me, etc.

    A southern/country type of album.
