Right - The "Fifth Member" fan club. I am in the free tier, which still has some perks (such as access to tickets for that 2nd show - went on sale at 9am today).

Ten Club is the only band fan club that I still actually pay for....

I was hoping to hear Orion, Mama Said, To Live Is To Die, Astronomy, etc being played with orchestra

The Symphony has been around for awhile, but I'd hardly call them "rockers".

Thanks for sharing your insightful ideas.

I'm there tonight (scored amazing seats up front through ticketmaster yesterday when they apparently released a bunch of seats they'd held back). I wouldn't expect a different setlist, doing this required a significant amount of rehearsal etc. It's already apparently a 3 hour show.

Doubt it. They played two shows the first time and they were both the same. Probably to have two takes for the video.

I like the setlist. Maybe would like a couple more Load era tunes, there are only two here. But "The Outlaw Torn" is one of the best and rarely played so that's good. Looks like they made a point to get a song from every album, something they didn't do the first time even with fewer albums.

Yesterday's (and this morning's) Platinum drops was nothing compared to what TM did last week all the way up to 7 PM day of show on the 6th!

I was there last night. We had great seats and as a regular SF symphony watcher, it was surreal to see my favorite players and MTT in this setting. Metallica was my favorite band until 1992 or 1993 or so. Anesthesia was the highlight for me. I basically died and went to heaven.

pretty excellent show; I would have cut Unforgiven III, it was boring. Almost everything else was pretty amazing including Michael Tilson Thomas banging a Korg during Enter Sandman. And I really liked Metallica ripping it up with the symphony on Mosolov's Iron Foundry. They could have done with one more thing like that rather than Unforgiven III.

Was it a boring performance or do you just think it's a boring song?

It's a boring song, which leads to not a very interesting performance.

as for how the band performed: I know people have been complaining about Lars lately but I thought he was fine. But Metallica for me now is really just the Kirk and Robert show; those guys are monsters on stage and so fun.

That said, I had a fun time at the show (Sunday).

The venue is pretty nice. Good sight lines, plenty of concessions, restrooms, etc. Lines for most things were not too bad - except the merch! Those lines snaked around the hallways for quite some time. Cool shirts for sure but I wasn't willing to wait in line. A few are turning up on ebay, if there's an XL for the decent price I may go for it.

I enjoyed the show quite a bit but sadly the sound was a bit thin up in the 200's.

Mosolov's Iron Foundry was a highlight. Very cool! I think only 3 songs from black album. The friend I went with hates that album, but I can still dig it....

Didn't like S&M then, won't like it now. I found the arrangements did not work well with the music

I saw that they were selling merch online in advance to allow you to skip the lines. I don’t know if that was only a pre-order situation though.
