    Hi everybody,

I recently acquired sealed copies of "Plastic Ono Band" and "Imagine". After removing the plastic, I found that not only were the backs of both jewel cases all scuffed up, but there were also scratches/scuffs on the bottom of the "POB" disc, and if you can believe this- fingerprints (???) on the label side!
I thought at first these were resealed somehow, but I could detect no foul-play after VERY close inspection.

The vendor I purchased these from of course assumed I was "full of it" when I told him of my situation, and MFSL hasn't responded to my emails. This experience has left a very bad taste in my mouth, and I'm now I'm very hesitant to purchase future "sealed" MFSL titles.

Anyone else have similar problems with these titles? Any feedback would be appreciated.

I purchased the Plastic Ono Band and it was clearly sealed. Yet, as you found, I found the back of the jewel case to be scuffed up, but the disc was mint.

I don't believe these are resealed, just a poor job at the factory which is packing these things. All the new MOFI SACDs I have purchased, which I assume are manufactured and packed at a different factory from their regular 24kt Gold Discs, have been in pristine shape all around.

    Welcome aboard!

Sorry about your MFSL experience. If they ever do decide to answer your emails, I would insist on replacement copies and pronto. They've got the balls to charge $25 or more for non authentic representations of Lennon's best stuff, you deserve decent CD's not a beat up frisbee.

    Hi again,

Nice to hear a few words of support. If only the vendor were so understanding (see below).
Note: the vendor's name has been omitted, but I will say that they are a prominent seller of current MFSL titles on Ebay.

    -----------------------------------------------------------
    Hi Todd,
Sorry to hear that you were not happy with your order. These Cd's came direct from Mobile Fidelity in sealed boxlots. WE have sold over 50 of each and it's quite humorous that you would be the only one to have problems with your 2 CD's. The accusations that they are used and have fingerprints is really ludicrous. Please contact Mobile Fidelity direct if you have quality control issues with there products. I'm sure that they would love to
    hear from you.
I have put you on our "blocked bidder" list so you will not accidentley make a purchase of any of the new MoFi titles from us in the future. Now all that's left is for us to swap Negatives. Cheers _______

    ------------------------------------------------------------

I did not imply that the vendor was in any way responsible for the condition of these titles, however, I did ask for replacement copies (with return ship at my expense.) I suppose I asked for too much.

-and assumingly, MFSL was not happy to hear from me, as they have been totally unresponsive.

Got ripped hard on this one folks....

Did you contact MFSL? I would recommend that you contact them and they will replace the cd's! I don't see any reason why any company wouldn't replace a product which is not up to its quality, especially MFSL who is usually pretty nutty about their quality control.

That vendor is absolute scum. Among other things, the response about trading negatives really was truly disgusting. Even though we all can guess at who it is, please tell us so we all can avoid this a--hole in the future.

Todd, by any chance does this seller's name start with j and he's a "power seller"? If so, I'm pretty sure I know who it is.

I, too, would be interested to know the identity of the seller.

Feel free to PM me their name if you don't mind the hassle...

I would love to email them and ask to be added to their blocked bidder list. I will not mention your situation or your name, but I would like to avoid purchasing from them.

Sorry to hear about this problem. Knock on wood, I have been very lucky buying "sealed" cds on eBay. Although once I won a "sealed" DCC gold disc that had clearly been played. It had marks on the inner ring and it also had fingerprints. But I was so happy to get the disc, I didn't complain.

That is the most pompous, arrogant email from a seller I've ever seen! You must share the seller's name so I can put him or her on my "Do Not Buy From" list!

True, it's probably not the vendor's fault if the sealed merchandise is in questionable condition. And, depending on his relationship with the vendor, he may not be out of place recommending that you contact MFSL directly. However, that tone is NOT called for. And that part about "swapping negatives" made me furious. In one email, this seller showed all his cards (in my opinion).

Please share the seller's name - if only by PM. Thanks!

I emailed both their general info dept. and wholesale division. No response from either, and it's been nearly two months.

BTW, out of fairness, here is the exact note which generated the above response.

    Hi,

I received this order today, and I must say I am extremely
dissapointed with it. The "Plastic Ono" disc shows signs of having been previously
played- not only are there scratches on the bottom side of the disc, there are also
fingerprints on the label side. Also, there are a number of scuffs on
both jewel cases. I would very much like to return these for an exchange (I
believe that's your policy?) Please contact me at your earliest convenience.

    Thanks,
    Todd

Hmm, I thought so! You'll notice he's no longer on our "Good Guys Sellers List". ;)

When good sellers go bad. :sigh:

Yes. I had asked him a question with all sincerity last weekend and he proceeded to change his ad by adding my information I had given him and then adding me to his blocked bidders list along with a rude email similar to the one Todd had received.

Its funny how sellers go bad. Its kinda like how employees go bad at my work for no obivous reason. :( Somehow they just turn flaky!

It's weird, because he goes on in his auctions about how proud they are to be an MFSL dealer, blah, blah....

    Wow.

I think we should all contact him and request to be put on his "list."

    Sheesh,

    Ben

This is pretty disturbing news. I have done business with Fred for years and consider him a friend. I have spent thousands of dollars with him and never had a single problem.
Still that is indeed one ugly message he sent and I am bothered by it. He needs to know that a lot of potential customers are hearing bad things about him. I will happily try to intervene and see if I can get him to come around. Thoughts on this?

    Cheers-

Here's a copy of the email exchange between Jonifan and myself and please keep in mind that after I pointed this out to him he changed his eBay auctions for the Linnon MFSL's to reflect this. I had purchased from him in the past with no problems as well.

    Hi Jon,

As a longtime Ebayer and a customer of yours on more than one ocassion I have
a problem with this auction listing. Both this one and Imagine on MFSL are
not the "Original Master Recording", but the Yoko Ono remixes. Admittedly it is
MFSL's fault, but don't you think that it would be better for your own
    business to state the facts?

    Sincerely,
    Dave

Norm, it's your call, but I don't want to be further dragged into this non-sense any further.
