One thing the Tex Avery Screwball Classics blu-rays make clear is how visually beautiful MGM's cartoons were! They had the highest production value of cartoon shorts in the 40s and early 50s, no doubt. The backgrounds are amazing, so lush and gorgeous. The characters are spectacularly well drawn, detailed and appealing. The animation is fluid. Even the mundane objects, like bowling balls, are "needlessly" drawn almost photorrealistically! Beautiful!

While I still think Warner's output overall was superior due to the greater diversity in the gags, styles, incomparable set of fantastic characters and superior rewatchability fun, MGM's production values in cartoon shorts were second to none. They were a very good studio that made many great cartoons.
