    No, that Walken was taking pains to clarify that he himself - Walken - was normal. I'll have to take a look at the restored version. IIRC seeing the edited version in a theater there was an incredible amount of.... dust.

  2. It hasn’t been the best cared for film over the years and the edits went astray so other sources for the Criterion had to be used. I disagree that it drops down to DVD quality during the edits. It is clear, however, that these sequences were sourced from alternate sources other than the negative or even the interpositive created for Cimino’s first version.

    It’s frustrating because, as talented as Cimino was, he reminds me of Orson Welles in that s variety of problems that he created himself would interfere with him and the making of his movies. His first four films are a strong argument for him as a major artist but, thereafter, his career went off the rails.
