Saw the new 3D IMAX release of MJ's Thriller video today. It's playing as the lead-in to the new "House with a clock in the walls" movie.

I was impressed. The IMAX size provides a new dimension to the video, you get to see MJ's facial expressions and dance moves in a very vivid way. The 3D is manufactured of course but doesn't look fake.

Best of all is the sound of the song itself. The song was remastered especially for IMAX, and booming out of its sound system, i couldn't help but shake my booty to its infectious groove. So if you want to experience this classic in a new way, i recommend it.

The press release in August said it would be in theaters for just one week, September 21st - 28th, so don't delay. :)

IMHO clock should be the lead in to the thriller vid.

I agree. The 'clock' movie was completely forgettable, I rated it a C-, boring.

But at least with Thriller as the opening act, you don't have to sit through the poor movie to see it, LOL.

Just saw it an hour ago. An absolute must-see. So many details lost in the muddiness of the currently-available transfer are now crystal clear, despite the 3D being distracting as it tends to be.

Also how about that alternate ending?

Appropriately enough, this video was filmed in the middle of October 1983 (weeks before Halloween), according to some Call Sheets I've seen on eBay several times.

Is there a way to do spoiler markings on here?

It’s a small touch with a great effect, something you gotta see for yourself. Ideally in a theater with lots of children.

There are videos online of it though...

    Yes

Whatever you don't want revealed you want to type put Spoiler in brackets [these] then when you're finished, end with [/spoiler].

You can always preview your post beforehand so you make sure it's correct.

Ah, right. It’s honestly been ages since I’ve last been active on a proper web forum. Appreciate it.

I’m still recovering from having to sit through Captain Eo.

I saw this with my kids, and it was a great experience. They really cleaned it up so much (though I will say that some of the griminess of the original copy lended to the charm), and it was sort of weird to remember that Michael Jackson used to be an attractive guy. Definitely worth it, and I hope they release it on Blu-ray (or streaming).

Have they announced a Blu-Ray yet for this? Don't care about 3D, just want my Thriller in high-def.

    Nope. Which is incredibly unfortunate.

I don't think they'd release an individual release of it because even though it's an extended music video/mini-movie it's still pretty short. I would expect them to release it as part of a Thriller box set of some kind along with other related video material though at some point...
