Anyone have an ideal what the tracklisting will be?

Definitely a instant preorder item for me.

Wonder what Videoranch will do special? I imagine just signed copies but who knows.

Great work by 7a records again. Monkees fans are very fortunate as most bands don't get anything like the number of archival releases.

According to the info we have so far, this gig was part of a small tour to promote his album "Pretty Much Your Standard Ranch Stash". It's curious, assuming this is the complete concert, that he only plays "Some of Shelley's Blues" from that album. One song was hardly going to the promote it. I wonder if he actually performed any of the other three originals from the album: "Release", "Winonah" and the sublime "Continuing"? So if these songs were performed at McCabe's I wonder why they weren't chosen for this release? It's great that we get the rare "Rose City Chimes" and "Poinciana" instrumentals by Red Rhodes. Anyone have the complete set list (if this is not the complete gig) or any other shows in 1973?

    Thanks!

Some songs I don’t know here (Is “Alice Nesmith” a song?). Should be interesting!

Well, this is one of the guys who sang a song “from our new album” on The Johnny Cash Show, and it turned out to be a song that wasn’t. So...

I have no idea what the set list was. However, the Calendar section of the Los Angeles Times listed evening shows at 8:00 and 10:00 on both Friday and Saturday nights, August 17th and 18th. So there could have been more songs performed and recorded than what appears on this release.

Once read Nez stating he recorded most of his shows. Imagine all the great demos, unreleased tracks, alternate version tracks and live recordings just sitting in storage at VR ... :waiting:

The song Poinciana (The Song of the Tree) was recorded twice by Frank Sinatra in 1946 and 1947.

Was also recorded by Glenn Miller and others.

How cool is it that Nez (well Red Rhodes anyway) had a go at this song in 1973!!!!

Was that on Red's Velvet Hammer Album?

When Nez was producing music for the Hellecasters and releasing their album on Pacific Arts/Rio Records, I was hoping he'd start re-releasing all of Red's albums.

I would love a good quality release of his version of the classic "Long Black Veil" that he sang live with just him and his guitar sometime I think in the early '90s, which is one of the greatest versions of that song that anyone's ever done. The one that's floated around for years is such bad quality.

Nesmith has stated before that's one of his favorite ways to perform, which in turn has made me wonder sometimes if he has ever recorded just himself singing and playing guitar on some of his favorite non-Nesmith songs like that one...a collection of those types of songs played by just Nez and his guitar would have the potential to be one of his best.

Had no idea Nez ever performed “Long Black Veil.” I’d love to hear that too.

interesting choice of picture there, from the filming of HEAD. Not sure what that has to do with the song, but thanks for finding that!

EDIT: Just listened. Iffy sound, but great to hear. Thanks again!
