Last year, I spoke to Tork about his "Release" recordings. He said he has them all on acetate. I don't think he has the actual tapes nor if they even exist anymore. I told him to find a good turntable and transfer them as we Monkees fans would love to hear this stuff. He smiled and sort of shrugged it off but thought it was a good idea.

By the way, he also confirmed that he never recorded anything with Nesmith and his Countryside Label. Delete that fallacy.

I'm sincerely curious why there's no problem releasing the Turtles on CD and not Dolenz? Is it because there's a bigger market for the Turtles titles or because Universal is asking a higher fee? Good luck with both projects!

I'm very happy with a vinyl release. It'll look great with the pics and the much discussed essay.

The vinyl is said to come with a digital download so anyone who wants to can burn their own CDR.

My chief concern is that this is supposedly a run of 500, and yet the Facebook page has 1000 'likes', slightly worried I wont get a copy.

Potential exciting development about finding the masters too! Can't wait for this set

  8. I wonder if someone would volunteer to do this for him (bringing their own turntable and laptop to his house and doing the transfers), if he would let them.

Regarding the Turtles question -- Kaylan and Volman have ownership of the masters, rather than one of the big corporations or some other holding company.

I suggested he do that but again, he shrugged it off.

Iain, could you please clarify a couple things:
    1) Am I understanding correctly that the 50/50 odds you refer to relates strictly regarding whether you can secure the licensing for the previously unreleased tracks, NOT regarding whether you will be able to transfer the songs from the master tapes that are now confirmed to be in Universals U.S. vaults? Am I correct?

In other words, now that Universal knows that they do indeed possess the master tapes, all tracks will definitely be transferred from these master tapes in all released formats (Vinyl, Digital Download, and hopefully later CD)? Right?

    2. Will the Digital Downloads be made available in WAV or FLAC uncompressed formats for those that don't want MP3, etc.?

(For those like myself who want a CD release, WAV files from the master tapes could tide us over until a possible future physical CD release)

You could do a kickstarter project or gofundme project to raise the money for the Dolenz CD and other Monkees releases ...

    Hi all

Sorry for the silence...things have been progressing.

We have managed to locate the masters for all but 2 of the tracks. These have been sourced and transferred and will be used on the release.

The booklet is absolutely stunning. It's 12 pages long and incredibly detailed featuring interviews with some of the key players. The whole package comes with 13 previously unseen photos from the Henry Diltz collection. There is also a brand new interview with Micky exclusively for this record.

It's going to be 400 LP's on blue vinyl, 180gm.

Then there will be a digital download.

    Then...we see.

PS we did secure the rights to 5 unreleased tracks...but...when our contact went to the tape library, those tapes were missing despite them being listed as present. So, no unreleased stuff...on this record.

Having heard some of Micky's singles on YouTube (inspired by this thread) I really like a lot of them. I'd also prefer a CD version ideally but I think it's great you've gone to all this effort as a labour of love. Well done!

I have a feeling most of us are gonna miss out with only 400 pressings.

Will there be a digital booklet with the digital release?
