I was near the downstairs merch table and they put the tanks out midway thru the show. Didn't see anybody buy one.

    ANNOUNCEMENT REGARDING VINYL BOXSET
It’s been brought to our attention that “Stars Of Warburton” mistakenly appears twice on Side A of “Blue Sky Mining” LP in the Vinyl Box. Therefore, a new and corrected pressing of that record is being done right now. No more vinyl will ship anywhere until this glitch has been corrected. As a result, all international releases of The Vinyl Box will now move back by several weeks – please check with your local retailer for your new in-store dates.

People who pre-ordered the Vinyl Box via www.midnightoil.com should already have received an email about this. People who have already bought a box set through a retailer should contact them for a replacement. Sorry for any inconvenience.

This is bad. For Sony. The PWAP excuse had to be bogus anyway. Unbelievable.

Perhaps Garret was in charge of quality control like he was with the Pink Batts debacle :D

How the flurp this could happen is beyond me. Did they not listen to the album at any stage of the vinyl mastering.

Would you really want a bricked mess in HD? :p
Old US Oil discs are pretty cheap and sound good :)
Looks like the numbers for the b-sides and extra's in the box are dynamically compromised (To the hilt) Sucks

I want to support the artist. Used CDs won't get that job done.

I went on a quest last year to get as many Oils tracks on CD as I could. I tracked down all the original CD singles and therefore I already have most of the tracks on the "b-sides and rarities" CD, plus a few that didn't make the cut. I'm sure with some searching the CDs can still be found reasonably.

I worked for members of the band in 2004. Trust me they don't need the bread!

Any chance you could post a checklist indicating which CD edition you went with?

For the main albums, I have US pressings of the original CDs. Except for Diesel and Dust, which is an Austrian pressing with "Gunbarrel Highway." Oh, and I got an Australian pressing of "Redneck Wonderland" because it has expanded artwork in the booklet. Here's what I've tracked down so far for b-sides, rarities, etc. In a couple instances I had to settle for vinyl rips or "unofficial" sources until I can find a reasonably priced CD:

The Green Disc: Midnight Oil - The Green Disc
    • Beds are Burning (Tamarama Mix)
    • The Dead Heart (Long Version)
    • Blue Sky Mining (Food on the Table Mix)
    • Power and the Passion (Remix)

Beds are Burning (US 12")--this is an excellent vinyl rip from DJ Paul- Midnight Oil – Beds Are Burning (US 12″ Promo)
    • Beds are Burning (Luongo 7" Mix)
    • Beds are Burning (Instrumental Ayers Rock Mix)
    • Beds are Burning (Percapella Kangaroo Mix)
Cemetery in My Mind (EU Maxi Single) Midnight Oil - Cemetery In My Mind
    • Cemetery in My Mind (True Believers Blind Version)
    • Heaven and Earth
    • Devilfish Shuffle
My Country (UK Maxi Single 1) Midnight Oil - My Country
    • My Country (Radio Version)
    • Glitch Baby Glitch
    • Truganini (Short Road Train Mix)
My Country (US Maxi Single) Midnight Oil - My Country
    • My Country (12" Leap of Logic Mix)
    • Kolele Mai
    • Ships of Freedom
    • Truganini (Long Road Train Mix)
Underwater (EU Maxi Single) Midnight Oil - Underwater
    • I See You
    • Smash the Wobbleboard
    • Kingdom of Flaunt
White Skin Black Heart (EU Maxi Single) Midnight Oil - White Skin Black Heart
    • White Skin Black Heart (Rusty Wheel Mix)
    • Frontier... What Frontier?
    • (this CD also has Kevin Carmody's "Thou Shalt Not Steal" on it)
Redneck Wonderland (EU Maxi Single) Midnight Oil - Redneck Wonderland
    • The Great Gibber Plain (Ambient Version)
    • Frontier... What Frontier? (also on White Skin Black Heart above)
    • Pub with No Beer
King of the Mountain (AU Maxi Single)Midnight Oil - King Of The Mountain (NOTE: this is incredibly hard to find, so I got these tracks from an online source until I can actually find a copy of the CD)
    • King of the Mountain (Mountain Mix aka 12" NixMix)
    • Instant Karma
And here are some other tracks that I have in CD quality but I haven't yet tracked down the actual CDs:
    • You May Not Be Released (easily found on AU pressings of BSM)
    • Kiss That Girl (from German version of Capricornia)
    • No Man's Land (from the Gaia Project)
    • No Man's Land (acoustic)
    • Wharf Rat (from Grateful Dead tribute album)
    • Land (benefit single)
    • What's So Funny About Peace Love and Understanding
    • And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda
    • Eye Contact/Pictures (The Real Thing b-side) Midnight Oil - The Real Thing
    • Outside World (Instrumental) - vinyl rip
    • Say Your Prayers (Original Liberdade Version)
    • The Real Thing (Long Road Home Mix)-I can't find this anywhere on an official release, and I think it's a bootleg mix. Not worth tracking down.
    • Power and the Passion (Resurrected DJ Mix) Various - Resurrection Volumes 4-5-6 (possibly unofficial, and very similar to the other P&P remix)
That's what I have so far. Still working on all the live b-sides!

Nice collection Morgan, That Green disc and Best of The B-Sides are the pride of my Oil stuff. Discogs gives a breakdown on most of the tracks and where they can be located :)

I also have "Best of the B-sides" courtesy of a great friend who was in the industry back then. Never understood why it wasn't released the public.

No kidding, they could of doubled it with 20,000 as a two disc set. Not sure why being a promo would of been essential for DJ's. Found mine at a junk store for a buck or two about a decade ago

Yeah, I don't see the logic of the rarities they included. They included some of the worst and left off some of the best.

Probably used only what they had in the Sony US vaults at the time... Reasoning's i'll never understand...

I recd my set yesterday and really enjoyed the MTV Unplugged DVD - nice picture and sounds good - especially given it was recorded 25??!! Years ago

Has anyone here actually compared the MO remasters with the original CD issues? I've heard that the remasters are victims of the loudness wars, but how bad are they? For example, I've always thought that the Midnight Oil and Head Injuries albums could use a good remastering (if not remixing) to improve the EQ and clarity. I'd perhaps trade some dynamics for a more pleasing EQ or mastering from better sources. The later albums--from Diesel And Dust on--are certainly perfect in their original versions. I'd be interested in hearing peoples' thoughts.

The only remaster I grabbed was 10,9,8. The EQ does sound good. But unfortunately I can't listen to it long enough to enjoy it. Maybe on a portable it would be fine.

I'm happy to say that after a sad week (the passing of Chris Cornell), I had some happiness on Sat. night at the Oils show here!

It was just great! 1 hour and 50 min set.

It was strange that they didn't play any earlier stuff from 10,9,8... and before, however we got a lot of 'deep cut's that I'd never seen the band do before (and I've seen every Toronto show since 1990)

We got 2 songs from "Red Sails..."
    6 from "Diesel & Dust"
    5 from "Blue Sky Mining"
3 from "Earth & Sun & Moon" (plus a b side from those sessions)
    1 from Redneck Wonderland"
1 of the studio tracks from "The Real Thing"
    and
    3 from "Capricornia"

    22 songs in total.

The band was in top form (it sure didn't seem like 15 years had passed!)
Garrett was as great as ever!

They're coming back to the Ampitheatre in August for a bigger show so don't miss them!

A great evening overall (and we were lucky to say Hi to Alan Cross (the DJ) and Rob Baker from The Tragically Hip who were there)

After the show, the soundman played Soundgarden's "Black Hole Sun" as the crowd were filing out (and we all sang along nice and loud for Chris!)
