I preferred the B52's kind of bush fire.

So, the only option to get a normal CD - buy Australian pressing from the groups site? And its not in a jewel case, i'm sure:(

That seems to be the case, but it's cheaper from JB.

Mine arrived today and appears to be a real pressed CD, from SONY Australia . I ordered it thru Amazon but it was actually fulfilled by importcds, so I guess I got the real McCoy. Oh, and it is in a jewel case.

Correction. There's a small disclaimer in the bar code that says Manufactured by Amazon.com Columbia, SC.

    Right, it's a cd-r
If it's a Sony manufacture it will have DADC on the hub.

No "US pressing" on Discogs yet, but here's a photo of the underside of the Australian CD which matches what @Dam posted, along with the listing for the European version, which also seems to be a legit CD because it contains the following information:
    European pressing:
    Barcode and Other Identifiers
    • Barcode: 1 94397 93942 2
    • Matrix / Runout: [Sony Music logo] 57548500/19439793942 21
    • Mastering SID Code: IFPI LB 46
    • Mould SID Code: IFPI 0736
    • Label Code: L06667
    • Rights Society: BIEM/GEMA
    Australia CD photo:

It looks like the European is in a flimsy card sleeve as well, so if you want a jewel case with inserts you'll have to go with the CD-R from amazon and other US sellers.

We sure will miss Bones. He was such a great member of the band, both on bass and vocals.

Since this album is now well and truly released, can this thread be renamed to something like "Midnight Oil - Mataranka Project"?

    Howler of the month:

Radio announcer just played a track from the album and introduced it as "Midnight Oil, featuring the distinctive voice of Peter Gabriel".

There’s another studio album - recorded at the same time as the Matraranka Project - coming out in 2021. From what I understand, the forthcoming album is more your typical Oils release, with most - if not all - of the collaborative tracks having been placed on the Mataranka Project.

For anyone interested...this is now available in Australia in a jewel case pressed by Sony Music Australia.

I went in to JB HiFi yesterday and there were none of the first packaging pressings to be found - all jewel cases!!
    Maybe the message got through?

Good record! I can see Gadigal being a kickass live stomper. Saw Midnight Oil in 88 in Arizona, outdoors in November, a desert dream. They were on fire.

Looking forward to the gig in March 20 only about 15 minutes from my joint, which doesn’t happen very often, as I’m quite a distance from the nearest capital city (Melbourne).

“Sydney bassist Adam Ventoura will also play with MIDNIGHT OIL at these shows due to the sudden passing of longtime band member Bones Hillman late last year.“

There is going to be a conventional record released as a follow up to this. A lot of it is already in the can. The band sounds great.
