Mobile Fidelity Vinyl One Step of SANTANA, BILL EVANS TRIO, etc.*

Discussion in 'Music Corner' started by Drew769, Dec 1, 2015.

  1. It is a one step. This and Mingus' Ah Um were on the back of the 2019 catalog as one steps.

Also Blues for Allah MFSL (not one step) release

And they show the Dire Straits reissue. I pre ordered these FOREVER ago. Maybe we will finally see them??

Has anyone received any replacement sleeves or boxes yet? I haven't seen anything.

I did see that on the back, should have realized the three in the middle are one steps. Knew about the other two.

Opinions on Fragile as a worthy title?

I question the recording as too inconsistent sonically. The best moments could come out great, though.

Even with the band member tracks, it has a certain flow to it that could be hurt by splitting the sides up.
However if you had to bust one up, Fragile (IMO) would suffer the least damage....as opposed to the other two of the power trilogy (TYE and CTTE).

He also has wide varied tastes for his age. Who here can honestly say that they were a fan of John Coltrane at 12. Perhaps a few. Maybe.

Not me - I first heard Coltrane at 18 didnt really get it till I was 30 maybe. But you are right he does have varied taste. Actually I think it is good that he hasnt heard everything - got to have some pleasures to come...

I actually bought the recent Kevin Gray cut, and wasn’t that impressed with the recording....I would probably buy the one step anyway though...

I have been trying to determine what is wrong with the KG cut. I have one or two copies that I believe are early pressings and one that is an SH cut. The KG is loud and maybe compressed? The recording is actually pretty good on the originals and the SH. The KG is not terrible but is not the best. I expect and hope the one step will be the definitive pressing of Fragile. BTW, I happen to like the individual contributions. Steve Howe on the acoustic guitar was a pleasant surprise on the first play and a joy on the subsequent ones.

Close To The Edge on the Piros and maybe some others is surprisingly good considering how dense it is in places. I am a pretty big YES fan, particularly the late 60's to mid 70's lineup and music.

You don’t like the Bellman cut of Close to the edge?

Don't think I have that one. Can you/will you point me to it?

    Thanks,

Yes - Close To The Edge

You may want to check it out, as some regard it as one of the best pressings of this album.

Thanks, I will look to see if I have it. 2012 wasn't a good year for me so I may have missed it.

That’s par for the course with Mobile Fidelity. I preordered both Hendrix Axis Bold As Love sets from AP on 12/02/2017. Who knows when they’re being issued. Acoustic Sounds says winter 2018/2019. I take it with a grain of salt.

Probably wise to delay until January with many traveling in December.
