Having watched MOFI prices generally rise over the past 10 years the use of Ebay has seen prices move to outrageous amounts.

I am quite disgusted with the prices people charge and this current "auction" has annoyed me enough to write this and hope that others may also feel the same way.

I just think these prices are ridiculous, and judging by the zero bids on most items I hope others agree. I mean $199 for what is basically a reissue of Revolver, rather than an excellent yellow and black Mono original for $100 sums it up for me.

Anyone else fancy joining the campaign to stop this ?

    regards

    Tim,

The only way you can really do anything is to vote with your wallet. Refuse to pay that much. I don't believe that you'll be seeing anyone bidding on these auctions. You wouldn't believe how many have tried the "high price routine" with the no-bid results. I see it every week.

I hope the prices on MFSL Beatles albums continue to soar while the prices of original y/b mono lps drop to next to nothing. :D

Don't worry I do vote with my money- eg the last MOFI album I bought was Hot August Night for £16, that's a double, it's mint. from a small record fair in Kent.

Compare it to " my uncle used to work for MOFI's" prices.

I think they're incredibly overrated , but I just hate people being ripped off.

Perhaps these $$$ albums are for the people who spend $5000 or more on phono carts, or thousands per meter for wires..

No use getting even the slightest bit riled over someone else who has over-priced auctions or who spends too much on their equipment.

    Life's too short.

He is not ripping off anyone. This is not the price of Milk or Bread. These are luxury items. What are you upset about is it that you what them but don't want to pay the price? Guess what you could have bought them when they were available for $12.99 each. I want a 1969 Dodge Daytona Charger. They went for $7K back then and now they are asking $75-$100K. So I guess I'll live without it.

Tommy , I am not upset about the price, I have a complete Collection of Yellow black original Beatles LP's in excellent condition, so I've got no need for vastly overrated overpriced reissues. And I bought them all from good dealers/private sellers.

I do object to sellers like this pushing the prices sky high, there is no way
a mint original should be worth less than a reissue.

Would you think a 80's reissue of a Daytona Charger built by Toyata should be worth more than the original ?

Maybe I'm wrong, I don't like greed , I know that's unpopular in some circles.

It looks like everyone here is happy to pay $200 for a Supertramp LP, good luck to you - I think these prices keep the true fans away.

How much something is "worth" is determined solely by supply and demand. If enough people want something that iss in short supply, then the price will rise (and the opposite).

Look at DCC CDs. There are some that go for small amounts of change and others (such as Ringo and Dreamboat Annie) that sell for large amounts. Simply because the demand is high while supply is low.

It's not sellers who push prices high; it's buyers.

I didn't mean to come across sharply. But as AudioEnz said it's the buyer's who keep pushing the price higher. Are they worth it? It's all a matter of perspective. Yes,Yellow/Black Parlophones are better but finding them in mint condition here in the US is nearly impossible so the MoFi's are a good alternative.

I agree that there are lots of ebay sellers who are greedy and/or trying to gouge people. But at the same time, that's their right under our capitalistic society. :)

At the same time, I don't think we should demonize those sellers who are charging fair market value.

As Dave said earlier - it's best to vote with your wallet. I think the fact, as you pointed out, that many/most of those $200+ starting bid auctions don't receive any bids at all is proof that people are generally with you in spirit.

All it takes is one sucker. Then they paid for all the weeks of listing things at inflated prices and getting no bidders. It seems like a bad way to do business to me.
I havent sold anything for quite a while now and I only sold cds to supply my habit but when mfsl and dcc discs started going high I went out to Best Buy stores and bought many of the more desireable ones and listed them for $9.99 (far less than the $24.99 + tax I paid) anyway I almost never lost money and that paid for the discs I kept. Actually Ive spent far more than I have made but I have a pretty nice collection.

I do wonder if some sellers do this.
Put discs up for outragous amounts of money. With another name put the same titles up. People bid higher on those discs thinking they are getting a bargin because they are not paying those other prices.
