    I tried CUT THE CRAP again for first time in over a decade just last week. While I cannot say I like it much, something about it haunts me in how it rises to the level of "really peculiar"---it ain't bad by being mediocre or un-thought out, that's for sure. There is a unique strange thing going on, a clue that maybe someday I'll actually decide I like it a lot. It sure was a new unusual sound for Strummer or anyone.

    As for others I own---
    FINAL CUT a classic, my favorite Floyd (while admitting its an obvious outlyer in the Floyd thing)---
    HARD NOSE and TRANS both intermittently excellent curiosities in their artists' career;

    CAPEMAN is just really good in concept and execution and does not deserve its fate; I recall seeing Paul live in 99 or so and him just shaking his head about its failure and saying something like "But I still think it's real good...reeeeeal good" and I agree;
    BLACK AND BLUE enough songs I value to not diss it though certainly more than a couple songs I don't value; same for IN THROUGH ;
    RAVEN gets points for ambitious peculiarity tho not for pleasure of listening;
    love EMPIRE BURLESQUE but I'm weird about how much I love Dylan; weird about how much I love Beach Boys too but even I don't adore the entire experience of LIGHT ALBUM though any track from it divorced from the flow of the rest of it stands out better and no LP with "Good Timin" can be dismissed out of hand;
    had to check wiki for what's even on CYCLES tho I own it; I love the title track but mostly in context of GHII and the rest of it is pretty tame and lame.

    I'm not exactly the most die-hard Paul Simon fan, but I really got into Songs From the Capeman when it first came out. In fact I'd rather listen to that than "Graceland" any day! :hide::D

    So they chose Earthling. Couldn't Mojo find any serviceable qualities of Tonight or Never Let Me Down?

    I voted for Wildlife which contains the exquisite Tomorrow and Some People Never Know.

    Is Earthling really "routinely dismissed" by fans, let alone "reviled"? As a Bowie fan, I'll say it's one of my favourites.

    I own nine of the listed albums, three of them I count as my favourites:

    Can, Out of Reach
    It probably helps that when I first heard Out of Reach, I had no preconceived ideas about Can or their music. It was just an album I played and liked. No amount of received wisdom has been able to change that; I still like Out of Reach.

    Led Zeppelin, In Through the Out Door
    Second only to Houses of the Holy in my ranking of LZ albums. Truly an excellent album.

    Stevie Wonder, Journey Through the Secret Life of Plants
    I think this is just great! In fact, it was the album that got me paying serious attention to Wonder. Before I came across Journey, I only knew a couple of his best-known songs. This remarkable work got me digging deeper.

    In addition to the three titles above, Captain Beefheart deserves a honourable mention here. Granted, Bluejeans & Moonbeams pales in comparison with most of the other items in the Beefheart discography. However, if it was the only album he ever released, I'm sure it might be conceivable to perceive it as a one-off classic

    I guess they didn't want to go down that path again. In a similar fashion they could have chosen "Dirty Work" over "Black And Blue". The first is much - and unfairly - maligned while I don't remember the latter ever being described as especially bad. In fact it's a fine mid-70's album. Made by people obviously not having to live in a South London highrise. :evil:

    It's probably in my top 5. Knock out the awful title track and it's a cracking set.

    Yeah, I've always wondered why he closed the album with its worst track. :shrug: I'm Afraid of Americans definitely should have ended it.

    And if it needed another track, I would've preferred the drum 'n' bass version of 'O Superman' that he did in his live set.

    Ironically, BoG was unloved (ignored) in the same magazine’s How to Buy feature: Jimi Hendrix: Mojo’s “How to buy”
