FWIW, when I bought "Headquarters" brand new in 1971, it came with the beards cover.

I remember seeing copies at record shows back in the goldmine days.
Dealers would have them displayed next to Beatles albums.

Could there be scope here for a reissue, from Four Men With Beards....

The catalog number for HQ wasn't changed. They just put the "RE" next to it on the rear slick, which was changed.

The catalog number on the spine, and the one on the record's label are the same as they've always been.

I have a Mancini record that also has "RE" next to the catalog # on the upper right of the back cover, but RE is not part of the catalog # on the label.

Other RCA albums have "RE" printed elsewhere on the back cover though.

I believe,in order to keep them looking young,RCA removed the Beard cover, and replaced it with Chip and Engineer Hank Cicalo at the board..a sign of Vanty on RCA's part, and,I think also, part paranoia on them, too! BTW,it was on only the Stereo Copies, but not on the Mono ones, according to Andrew Sandoval's CD liners He'd done in 1995.

The Beard cover definitely came in mono. I have one. The matrixes on the vinyl are -10S -11S

I can't see it mentioned in the '95 sleevenotes (maybe I missed it?).

The suggestion put forward above seems much more likely to me (that is, the beard photo replaced the incorrectly annotated shot of Chip and another engineer).

I don't know how rare this is-------but as a child I found a copy of 'Headquarters' at a thrift store that came with an ACTUAL BEARD.

I could never get it to stay on, and it itched pretty bad. :sigh:

It seems the "beard cover" was the later version, not the original.
