U.S. Atlantic records .. This video was in heavy rotation on MTV as it was was getting legs with the American cable audience. I saw Julian on this first U.S. tour at the famed Syria Mosque in Pgh, PA. (BD played there in '65, and '66, 79, etc..) anyway, I just wanted to go on record- I have enjoyed Julian's music very much. I thoroughly endorse his photographic talents, and I patiently await new music .. Please.

What a fantastic item. Apart from the main lyrics it has all those scribbled notes and quotes from other songs (Dark As A Dungeon, Backwater Blues). That's really something, thanks for posting that.

Is there any more information about this one, Bruce? How early, for example, or where it's come from?

We know a handwritten lyric sheet for "Times.." , with "North Country Blues" on the reverse, was sold in 2010 for boatloads (half a million bucks rings a bell). It was originally part of the so-called McKenzie-Krown Papers and the handwriting is definitely early Bob but possibly not specifically a work in progress. It seems to have been written carefully, more slowly than the one above.





I'm no expert but this new sheet seems to be later handwriting than the Krown sheet. But if it is from 1963 or 1964 it's fascinating to see the similarity to the "jotting down random notes in margins" method which was also evident in the working notebooks for "Blood on the Tracks", a decade later. Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose.

 

CORRECTION:
I have erred.. the very rare 'working lyric sheet' is not coming to auction. I'm expecting a return
call from an involved source. I can't say with certainty if it's before or after the lyric sheet above.. I'd go for the first one above myself, even if it's a second draft... Condition & Content.
