Probably the wrong thread to enter into too much discussion on this but, much as I like this hybrid track I have to say I kind of wish they wouldn't "fly in" the later contributions. Perhaps it just doesn't work without them, but I think I'd rather have the sparse remnants of the original Morgan Studios tapes than an amalgamation like this. Maybe the big box will feature the unadorned original remnants...

I'm of like mind on this one.. at what point will this discontinue ?
I have enjoyed the weekly celebrations on Fridays.. but I certainly hope that RF will stop
actually re-recording.... maybe it's me, I saw Mel in 1972.. incredible. And, he always is.. this massive powerhouse that is Crimson live is enough!? Love it all, the best don't misunderstand..

Then they have Pat re-record an album with his drumming.. and Mel and Jakko play to an original classic ..

I myself have enjoyed each new variation, but to see them live is to understand.
Even with the best things we must ask if this is necessary..

Is this the specific version on Belew Prints: The Acoustic Adrian Belew, Vol. 2?

Adrian did this live with his guitar synthesized as a piano. Per his liner notes on the album, people laughed uncomfortably in the audience because they thought he didn't know the words but Adrian worked off the John demo that had the words missing. The Beatles version hadn't been heard yet by the public.

The Beatles had just released "Free As A Bird"..
And not unlike Jimi Hendrix surprising The Beatles, and the rest of us with opening the Saville with Sgt. Pepper's... King Crimson opened their shows with "Free As A Bird". It was so great, I was blessed to be at at one of those shows.. Adrian did work the song out from the original version, and released it on a solo.. King Crimson debuted it right after The Beatles released it the next day! :righton:

    > THIS is truly superb, rare footage- "like". :)
Exciting!! :righton: Like unseen Beatles or Dylan footage from '72 just dropped...
I loved John W. This original song and footage is breathtaking for me. Bill & Jamie,
and the trombone! Fantastico! You think you'd seen it all.. Enjoy!
