All Things Must Pass at 50

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m000pljn

In November 1970 a triple album was released by the Beatle previously known as ‘the Quiet One’. George Harrison’s All Things Must Pass was unique, not because it was number one around the world, but because of its fascination with Eastern religion.

Growing up in the 1970s, musician and composer Nitin Sawhney was aware of George Harrison and his interest in Indian classical music, particularly his close connection with Ravi Shankar. He knew Harrison’s hit singles, but his most famous album, All Things Must Pass, remained unexplored. Was this LP, written in the latter years of the 1960s already out of date in 1970, or was it in fact ahead of its time, with its heart-felt lyrics and religious themes? This month sees the 50th anniversary of the its release and so is a good time to reappraise George Harrison’s most successful album.

Interviewees include Olivia Harrison, Michael Palin, Jools Holland, biographers Graeme Thomson and Joshua M. Greene, keyboard player Bobby Whitlock, drummer Alan White, and guitarist Dave Mason.

    Presenter: Nitin Sawhney
A TBI Media production for BBC Radio 4

"Unearthed from a cache of home demos and reel-to-reel recordings, Boots No. 2: The Lost Songs is the latest release of archival music from the vault of Gillian Welch and David Rawlings. This remarkable 48 song collection, spread over three volumes, was recorded between the making of Time (The Revelator) and Soul Journey. It is an intimate glimpse at the artist’s sketchbook, containing some lifelong themes as well as some flights of fancy.

"This deluxe package consists of a 12-inch “old-school, tip-on” style box made by Stoughton Printing, including a special 66-page song book with photos, lyrics, and guitar chords for all 48 tracks. The CD box will have all three volumes of Boots No. 2: The Lost Songs on three CDs in jewel cases."

Maddeningly for me, this is only available in its physical form from Gillian's U.S. website and so for me is double the otherwise reasonable asking price of $50. I'll say this: I know the move to digital-only is inevitable, but I shall mourn the passing of physical product.

Here is one of the songs on this collection. Simple, but wonderful.

Daniel Lanois ~ "Acadie" .. SIGNED CD
Canada .. Beautifully signed CD of his debut album "Acadie", which is absolutely superb.
The master musician, and producer extraordinaire delivered his freshman album in 1989,
and it still is one of his best! This is a cardboard sleeve CD signed in black sharpie pen.
I have an extra copy.. if you would like to have an opportunity to have it delivered to your
mailbox, and your in the U.S. Simply like this post and you may be the winner! :agree:
I don't think it's ever been played, but can't guarantee that. FREE is good.
Good luck! and Blessings on ya.. :righton:

The highest form of flattery... :)
Unquestionably a sincere loving form of imitation, and how amazingly bizarre that three years later they would be signed to The Beatles Apple Records label. :righton: Meeting and interacting with each other.

U.K. Rare Ltd. edition vinyl 45 and cardboard PS from Genesis Publications Ltd.
I have posted my promo review copy of the book and CD earlier in this thread.
CD's were all the rage.. and, the very rare specially numbered review edition came with
the CD. The special review copies had a different numbering system, and an additional
numbered promotional page inserted at the front. Had I the choice, I would have preferred
the 45. The PS is the same, the pull out tray came with the CD .. Anyway, seldom seen,
here is the vinyl 45. Photo archives.
