Any Free album. Astonishing bass playing by Andy Fraser. If you don't have any, I would start with their second album from October of 1969 entitled 'Free'

if you're testing a sub, the best thing is the first lord of the rings movie, during the opening sequence when sauron gets his fingers cut off and implodes.

If you mention Appice than it is a must to mention Tim Bogert, both on Vanilla Fudge - real furniture movers
Pastorius on Joni Mitchell's Don Juan's Reckless Daughter beginning with the Overture - earthqwake

Rick Wakeman - Merlin the Magician from the album Myths and Legends. The bass absolutely rattles the walls, or at least it did on the original vinyl.

As far as rock recordings go, I've always found that the sound of Macca's bass in Band on the Run was pretty impressive. The fact that it was recorded in less than ideal conditions probably meant that there wasn't a proper engineer to slice off the lower frequencies...

I too was thinking of Susie Cincinnati, but on the 7" 45 RPM single. Also We're All Going To The Same Place by Tommy Boyce & Bobby Hart.

When me and the Mrs were done installing our a/v system a few years back I thought
I'd test the bass response with U-Roy's 'Dread In A Babylon.' Most of the photos on
the fireplace mantel fell off and two frames actually broke.
