Roger Daltrey was always pretty ripped. Not quite as bulky as Gene Clark though.
I don't remember any musicians so huge that it suggested steroid use. Maybe Henry Rollins in his prime, but still he wasn't that big.
It's just that working out just became more common with time.

    My vote's on Iggy, too.

Mark Wahlberg used to be part of this club--anyone seen him lately? He's put on quite a few pounds for an upcoming film role in Father Stu. He's going to regret marring that physique at his age.

I went to see him on the tour for "Comes Alive" and the girl I went with said "He looks like ... a baseball manager!"

    There's always Manowar

1991 Ian Anderson was remarkably ripped. This is also one of his better 90s vocal performances.

Not necessary at all to achieve that. He's muscular but not that big. Just in great shape and packing little body fat. A good training program and sensible diet would do.

Vince Neil today. He's got 6 pack abs. He keeps then under a protective coating.

I'm not going to settle for a six pack when I can have a keg.

I thought he kept it under a piece of thick, packaging paper that says Budweiser, Miller, or something similar on it.

The SHF has little focus for rappers or hiphop

There are some serious physiques on display

Yeah lack of body fat does not equal "ripped" as in big muscles. Goes for many of the dudes in this thread.

In His defense, @DTK, at least Wahlberg is capable of tremendous screen performances when working with the right material--Boogie Nights, Shooter. I just try to forget about the "Good Vibrations" era. ;)

Kane Roberts, Bruce early '85 for a smaller guy, the dude from The Misfits, Daltrey '89 but I think he used steroids before the tour.

I don't think the term "ripped" implies big muscles, just an overall fit and muscular look with lots of definition. Bruce Lee was ripped, yet his muscles weren't really big. Just very well defined. Same goes for Iggy, Roger Daltrey, Mark Farner, Anthony Kiedis...
I think you were thinking of the term "shredded" instead, which implies both low body fat and big muscles.

I’m not a big fan of the guy or anything, but I’m pretty sure that he used his “IQ of a turnip” to do very well for himself.
