I saw it upon release in '86 when I was 18... and those kids in the flick were uncomfortably close to the crowd I ran with...
I was thinking about my neighborhood while watching that movie. It seemed like none of them had parents. Luckily, we were more into playing sports, and then when we hit middle school, some of us got musical instruments. A little bit of mischief, but our road had a TON of guys about my age, and barely any girls, so it was rougher than most of the other neighborhoods in the school district, but nothing close to that movie. It's been about 5 years since I last saw someone from my street.
I'll go with Quest for Fire. Saw it in the theater in early '80's, picked it because of the poster at the theater. Was not what I was expecting, enjoyed and have watched it several times since.
Probably Being John Malkovitch. I liked the risks it took with the 1st person camera view. But otherwise I didn't particularly care for it. I wonder why Malkovitch is so comfortable playing the bad guy.
One of a few movies I turned off when I was 17, when I'd force myself to finish everything (when I was just becoming serious about movies).. It was the De Niro scene (cable guyish) when I quit, and then I became kind and rewound the Blockbuster VHS.
My wife calls it her horror movie, she worked in a company that she calls 'Brazil' now. Many nightmares for her at the time, and she still can't listen to the song
I thought the Scarlett Johansson film 'Under the Skin" was about as different as you get!! LOVED IT!!
Dr. Caligari---1989---Really messed up film Forbidden Zone-1982 Really strange Valerie And Her Week Of Wonders--Czech film from 1970...very weird with fantastic score Lord Love A Duck--1966---Strange The Loved One---1965...about the Funeral business in Los Angeles. The Fall---2006....Beautiful movie
Thanks for the tip, we watched it last night and loved it. I want to see more movies like this. It's free on Amazon Prime now.
Man, I got "Raising Arizona" mixed up with "Arizona Dream", and already saw both, and liked the latter with Johnny Depp and Vincent Gallo.
Man, that was one out there movie. In 1988 we saw "Miracle Mile" in the theater. I loved it, the wife not so much. I thought Anthony Edwards did a great job portraying an average schlub who gradually comes to the realization that nuclear annihilation is imminent. A 2015 Australian movie "These Final Hours" is similar in that it follows an ordinary guy dealing with the breakdown of society as the cataclysmic shockwave from an asteroid strike engulfs Earth. Twelve hours left before civilization is wiped out. What would any of us do in our final hours?
many listed already come to mind "Welcome to Woop Woop" (1997) is strange and different not listed yet
Amelia is my favorite unusual movie. It' s so eccentric and so gentle. It also has that sweet pixie Audrey Tautou Three usual Canadian movies that I like are: THE TRIPLETS OF BELVEVILLE LEOLO 32 SHORT FILMS OF GLENN GOULD
