Without a doubt: Paul, the Simon Pegg/Nick Frost alien road trip movie. I watch it at least a couple of times a year, every other time or so with the commentary track.

Funny thing, I was in Las Vegas, New Mexico (one of the filming locations) awhile back and saw this in the front window of one of the antique shops:

I went inside and told the owner that I was a big fan of the movie. She said she had never seen or heard of it, had no idea of who Simon Pegg was. There was another antique store down the street that had some alien stuff for sale...the owners there didn't know anything about Paul being filmed in town either. Then I wandered over to the Plaza Hotel (a filming location for No Country For Old Men) and the woman at the front desk remembered that Simon Pegg had stayed there, but hadn't seen the movie. I mentioned that it also had Jason Bates, Bill Hader and Kristen Wiig -- she was very hip to them and said she would make a point of checking it out.

    Favourite 'Paul' scene:
Paul and the humans are sitting around a fire and Paul whips out a joint saying the weed is very strong and he got it from the military.
Paul: " This stuff killed Bob Dylan"
Human: " Bob Dylan's not dead!"
    Paul: " Isn't he?"

The Sting - I've probably seen it dozens of times, it's one of my favorite movies, and what I have on in the background if I want to passively watch something while doing something else
The Music Man - My favorite movie as a young kid, I'd watch it over and over again
Wargames - My favorite movie as an old kid
Aliens - Taped a copy off of HBO when we had a free trial on our old cable system

But the most watched is probably Quiz Show. When I worked at a video store in the 90's I would have the Sunday morning shift, and I'd put it in on the in-store TVs. Except for one scene of swearing, it was pretty tame, and had nice background music. I'd have the store put back together from the Saturday night blowout in an hour, and it would usually be pretty dead, and I could watch bits of it here and there.

I have introduced Hana-bi (directed by Takeshi Kitano, 1997) to a couple of friends and I always enjoy it myself. It's multifaceted, fun, brutal.

Blade Runner (Ridley Scott, 1982) I've seen in all its variations, without having a clear favourite between them. Reading the Philip K. Dick novella just deepens my interest in the world, and it is more like a world or a set of questions than a narrative.

The same with the Andrei Tarkovsky film Solaris (1972) and the Stanislaw Lem novel. There something fundamental told about the human experience in them that I keep coming back to.

Chungking Express (Wong Kar-wai, 1994) and Nobody Knows (Hirokazu Koreeda, 2004) are up there too. I think they are by two very different kind of directors, but both capture something evanescent, something fleeting with great intuition. It never gets old for me.

So...why isn't your avatar a shot of George Kennedy or of The Man With No Eyes or , better yet, one of Lucille the girl washing the car?

Liked it when it first came out. Great dialog, George Kennedy at his finest.

In watching it in more recent years gave me the impression that Luke, wasn't exactly the brightest guy...

How did Paul Newman not get an oscar for this film? His acting is as good as it gets.

I think he was more stubborn than anything. And definitely looking for something that he can't seem to find. The scene with his Mother is very telling.

For context, I’m 45. My most watched (though not necessary my outright favourite) films are probably:

    Back To The Future
Star Wars (and I guess Empire Strikes Back - I try to avoid ROTJ as half of it irritates me, though the other half is as good as the first 2)
Aliens. I prefer Alien as an amazing bit of filmmaking, and it’s mystique, but I love the adrenaline aspect to Aliens, and it is an ‘easier’ watch somehow.

I could watch any of these 3 films right now and be very satisfied watching them, regardless of how they (and I!) have aged since my first view.
