    I think as far as modern movies go, Bumblebee did an excellent job of creating the 80's look and culture.

    Even though Fame was only a 1980 film, this still feels like it's taken a firm step out of the '70s and into the '80s. Seems like the music video-style pacing is there and the focus on teenagers and school kids.

    Can't believe no one's mentioned The Karate Kid. Karate and Japanese culture (well, headbands with Japanese characters, ninjas and throwing stars) became really popular after that movie.

    I don't think anyone's said The Terminator, either.

    I'll also propose Escape From New York for the early '80s, even though it was set in the future.
