In reviewing the Steppenwolf threads this a.m. I notice a couple thumbs up opinions for the mo-fi release. Was this a UD2 release only? Or is it one of the ones they re-mastered with the smiley face eq? I have a line on the Mo-Fi but haven't yet found Steve's anywhere.

    Hi Mark,

It was only available as the UD2. No smiley faced eq. here my friend. Steve himself confirmed that MoFi did in fact use the real master and IMHO it sounds great.

Wow,thanks for the quick response Dave. Guess I'll have to pick that one up now. Is there a list of un-futzed with Mo-Fi UD2s anywhere?

Not that I'm aware of. With the amount of members we have now it should be no problem to answer individual request though. What are you interested in?

Another good UDII (no UDI available) is Dr John Gumbo two-fer.
An example of a UDII with lots of smiley face eq is Blue Oyster Cult Agents of Fortune.

I believe that 567 is the last number where both UDIIs and UDIs exist. However, 564, 565, 567 don't exist as UDIs. And 563 is a UDI Made in the USA. If there is a choice, always go for the Ultradisc (UDI, Made in Japan at bottom of CD label). All UDIs are flat transfers from original master tapes. UDis that are substantially different than their UDII counterpart are #'s 511, 517, 518, 519, 533, 535 and 556. Which are (in order) Police - Synchronicity, Pink Floyd - Meddle and Dark Side of the Moon, Cat Stevens - Tea for the Tillerman, The Who - Tommy, Boz Scaggs - Silk Degrees, and Lynyrd Skynyrd - Second Helping.

Hope that gives you a start!

    Brian :)
