Yeah, I know what a non-fill is but I assume that on this record everyone had it in the same general place of a song?

It did not end well. Among other problems, I ended up being accused of theft when I pointed out that they failed to ship a record to me, getting no further responses, and having to dispute the charge with my card company. But my opinions on MM are well-documented elsewhere in this thread so I won't go into them again. But I only buy second-hand or from other dealers now.

Yes. It was during the 2nd track, side 2. But remember, the actual non-fill occurs with each actual pressing, so it can sound different and each occurrence can last a bit different in length with each passing.

I feel bad for you. It's penny-wise, pound-foolish with their attitude.

I have pointed out that an outfit like Music Direct wants your loyalty beyond one record. And they'll act as a buffer between you and a manufacturer. With MM, there is no buffer. Their largely wonderful products and sometimes poor customer service aren't a good match. With the online retailers, you have a slew of costumer service people to help, and an accessible hierarchy if needed (I mean, for example), it's not all that hard to get Chad Kassem on the line if you call Acoustic Sounds).

I promise I'm not going to bang on about my issue with Somethin' Else any more, but after mailing both Ron and Lori again about the record they've offered to send me another OR give me my money back. result! shame I had to threaten to open a dispute to get a satisfactory resolution, but it is what is is.

I'm torn what to do really. can anyone here vouch for the Anaolgue Productions 2x 45rpm. reviews are favourable and I have a few AP records, which are absolutely stellar. the only difference I can find is perhaps the jackets aren't quite the same quality as MM. still very, very nice though. kind of tempted to go for that one, to be honest

    cheers guys

Haven't heard the 33 to compare, but I have the AP 45, and it sounds stellar on my system--one of the best sounding Blue Note reissues, to my ears and on my system.

I didn't, no. I could tell there was a serious issue with the record from first needle drop though, so didn't really see the need. it sounded like a 40 year old, trashed record to be honest! shame.

anyway, all's well that ends well.

think I'll go for the AP45

EDIT: I did play the record to a friend though, just to get a second opinion and he said it was an absolute dog! good enough for me

I recall the first reissues - with the white hype stickers - had white inner sleeves.

For anyone living in the Seattle / Tacoma area, Hi-Voltage Records in Tacoma has a pretty large selection of Music Matters records for sale in their shop that I hadn't noticed before visiting there on Sunday.

Yes--the earliest Music Matters releases (during the first year or so) used the white paper inner sleeves, with soft plastic lining.

    Were they pressed at RTI?

I believe they were. The pressing plant didn't change--only the inner sleeves. My recollection is that they made the switch because the stiffer plastic inners were less likely to cause seam splits during shipping, though my memory is not super clear on that. All of the earlier Music Matters releases (including Night in Tunisia) definitely used the poly-lined paper inners, though.

Has anyone else ordered directly from Music Matters recently? I just got three records (45s at the original prices, years later, for what it's worth). What I found interesting is that they didn't come from Music Matters, even though I used their website to buy. Rather, they came from Jeff Gold, c/o Recordmecca.com.

I wonder whether MM has sold the business or hired Gold to run their inventory and sales, or what. Gold is a pretty famous collector, as is Ron Rambach, so I imagine they might be friends.

  19. I have ordered from them directly recently (two orders within past month or so) and I believe they came from MM. I saw no mention of Jeff or Recordmecca.

I did in early July, I didn't notice anything like that, although I wasn't paying attention. I just ordered a batch of records (also 45s still at their original price, well at least the original price as far as I know, I only started getting MM in February and $50 has been the regular price for a 45 since then), I'll have to look for that when the order comes in.

Which titles? I did a quick search and no titles came up on the Record Mecca site. Hiring a third-party to handle inventory and sales would seem like a very strange move, IMO.

I've posted a version of this before, but this is much more complete as I'm nearing the end of collecting these. For record nerds like me. Sane people need not read on. Key: KPG is Kevin P. Gray, SH is Steve Hoffman, RR is Ron Rambach, JH is Joe Harley, ATM is Acoustech Mastering, and CA is Cohearent Audio. I don't know who AS is (see Art Blakey - Free for All).

I thought this would be helpful info for people following the history of the company and the evolution in its mastering approach. Please add or correct any information you may find missing or inaccurate.

I'm pretty sure it's related to Ron being done with the business; I think he moved to Hawaii. Although when I asked if they really weren't going to cut more titles, he told me never say never.

It was on the mailing label on the outside of the box. Jeff Gold, c/o Reccordmecca, and then the address, which differs from the MM address. First time I've seen that.

  25. If I recall correctly mine were addressed from Ron... but no longer have the boxes to double check. I may be ordering again soon though.
