I have to agree with this as well. While it would be nice to see some of those Japanese Hutcherson King's over here, something like The Kicker (which I love) which has never been released on vinyl would be the true grail. Andrew Hill's Passing Ships is another that comes to mind that never got a vinyl treatment.

Got it. If the release schedule was what it was like with Music Matters, then it was 2 titles a month. You won't have to chase down much.

  3. It’s pretty easy to understand why someone prefers a subscription. 1 purchase, set it and forget it, and you have the whole collection. Purchasing individually is dozens of purchases, not consistent numbers, etc. and something you would have to stay on top of for quite sometime if you wanted them all.

Sure, that's a great list but what am I gonna do with my Kings?! :yikes: Seriously, count me as being on board with the new releases as well -- thanks a ton, Joe.

Good call. Fantastic record! As is ‘Pax’ which was recorded in 1965 and never received a vinyl issue. There’s a ton of great Hill material on that 3 CD Mosaic box but don’t know if creating a virtual LP is part of this newly created series (a la what MM did with Mobley’s ‘The Feelin’s Good’). Some of that content did come out as BlueNote twofer back in the day as the title ‘One for One” which is EXCELLENT.

This is wonderful news! I have been reading this site for a while but just now got around to signing up. This news pushed me.

Thanks to all for the constant info.

Joe, what you, Ron, and Kevin did was amazing. I can’t wait for this series.

You’d think your MM purchases would quiet down, with the recent announcement.

    Nope :)

Just ordered Dorham cafe Bohemia, Sam Rivers, and the McCoy Tyner. I did have a $50 MM gift certificate though, that’s how I’m justifying it lol.

Good to hear! The Dorham was kind of a random cart throw in, but after hearing these jazz messengers Bohemia 45’s I’m probably most excited for the Dorham in that bunch. The JM’s sound quality is ridiculous and Dorhams playing is on fire.

Wonderful! Any chance we will see a 33 version of “Free For All”? I missed out on that one from Music Matters

I don’t know how many you have but I only discovered them two years ago and despite supporting a family of 6 being a working musician,

So where and when do you sign up for the subscription series to "Tone Poet"?

You think both sets, v.1 and v.2 (JM & CB) are equally good?

I like the song selection better on vol2 personally, but both are equally fantastic playing and sound wise. They are $50 each at ED so just went that route.

That price is too good to pass up, there goes another $100. Just when I thought I was out.

I have three more in my MM cart. Johnny Coles Little Johnny C, Kenny Clarke Golden 8, and Joe Henderson In n Out. Only one I’m on the fence about is Kenny Clarke, thoughts on this one?

I’m down to my last $150 on these, so I want to make sure I make it count!

Clifford Brown Memorial is a consideration too..

The uniqueness of the Kenny Clarke has me leaning in that direction though...

The Kenny Clarke is ridiculously good, sorry. It’s a non RVG mix, which means it’s actually mic’d really well and has fantastic soundstage with depth of field lol. The inside gatefold picture is also beautiful, in color!

The Kenny Clarke/Francy Boland "Golden Eight" is great. I wouldn't hesitate about it.

Don't consider or lean in a direction, just buy every MM title you're thinking about. This is the only correct answer.
