  1. I know. I listed the credits just to show that Jim Kerr is honest about where he was borrowing from.

Springsteen admitted he got the riff for Badlands from Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood as by The Animals; just changed it from a minor key into a major if I remember right.
Never admitted about The Line being from Love Minus Zero/No Limit, or a couple others that were pretty blatant.

Yeah, that line (or words to that effect) gets stolen a lot.

The funniest was his reaction when someone nicked from him.

    This

bore a certain resemblance to All Around the World. Noel's reaction was "do you think I'm gonna sue them, of all people?!"

That T.S Eliot (or whoever said it) line "talent borrows, genius steals" applies to all creative endeavour. Without it we get cultural stagnation.

Forget Led Zep. Johnny Cash nicked this wholesale for Folsom Prison Blues after hearing it on a friend's Gordon Jenkins album, while stationed in the Air Force in Germany. He made it better.

Plagiarism & Borrowing are rather simplistic terms as the reality is that every single artist or musician that has ever existed or will ever exist is a pure rendering of some form of Inspiration, whether that be from the influences of other artists or musicians, the wisdom of the ages or the illuminating ancient forces of nature and the surrounding elements of our mysterious universe. We human beings are basically just a biochemical product of many timeless ingredients that have existed since the inception of our galaxy and the works of art that we've produced throughout our time on this planet are comparable to this very same eternal process of creation. Nothing is original but everything is unique.

Paul said so as well - "oh yeah, we were the biggest nickers in Liverpool", describing how he copied bass riff of I saw Her Standing There off of Chuck Berry's I'm Talkin' About You, which they used to play in the club days.
