Frequent earworms are Hey Nineteen and Do It Again, so I guess they must be favorites. I listened to Aja at a friend's house every day after school not long after it dropped, so it grew to be my favorite album. "Deacon Blues" was unofficially adopted as Wake Forest's college tune during my time there early 80's so every frat party had it on at some point (not my favorite track, but the whole album is perfection). Someone mentioned Steve Gadd and I will definitely say Amen to that.
Time Out Of Mind? Sign In Stranger? Doctor Wu? Everyone's Gone To The Movies? Gaucho? I have no idea-I don't think there's a Steely Dan track I don't like.
Interesting to hear some favorites among here mentioned in the last few posts do not feature Donald Fagen's vocals (Midnight Cruiser, Dirty Work). These songs and "Brooklyn (Owes the Charmer Under Me) make this album somewhat of a standout , IMHO.
No Love here for "Charlie Freak"? Not necessarily a favorite, but a compelling story and musical arrangement.
Probably "Gaucho." The lyrics are intriguing but I'm lousy at reading between the lines. Can someone tell me what that song is about?
Mine is Daddy Don’t Live… with the great line, we know you’re smoking, wherever you are which pretty much covers where I believe my father ended up…
One of the many reasons 'Pretzel Logic' is my favourite Steely Dan album. It's full of quirky great songs like ' Charlie Freak' and ' Monkey In Your Soul'.
