Favorite song is My Old School. I absolutely hate horns in most songs, but enjoy them immensely here for some reason. Perfect song. Favorite album is Katy Lied or The Royal Scam. I toggle between the two. Least favorite song is Glamour Profession. Least favorite might be Aja. (but I like Black Cow).
Oh my...impossible to choose a favorite Dan record and song. I can honestly say that...and my fave album would depend on my mood, and I can't narrow things down to one favorite song from each Dan album. There's too much great stuff on those albums, from 1972-1980.
great reply!! #2.... geez.... i just can't without picking something obvious... deep cut (to me) worthy of mention... Glamor Profession Midnite Cruiser Razor Boy
Tough choice. It could be any number of songs. For me it comes down to either Any Major Dude or Deacon Blues.
Difficult, this. It varies from... Reelin' in the Years Peg Kid Charlemagne Night By Night Haitian Divorce Pretzel Logic is my favourite SD album too.
My favourite Steely Dan song is definitely one of Steely Dan's songs. I can't narrow it down much beyond that.
Impossible to choose. Their albums were so tightly produced--so crisp. They had great engineers, and their albums are a lesson in studio-ship. It's telling that Becker and Fagan remain so critical to the dbx engineering on Katy Lied.
It's got to be Deacon Blues. I truly love so many Steely Dan albums and songs, and it can change from month to month, but Deacon Blues is the perennial favourite. I love the lyrics, but don't really have a clue what it's about. It took me years to understand what the Crimson Tide was. The interplay between the melody, instruments and the lyrics is genius.
I don't think anyone has posted this, right? It's a decent sounding video of the Quad mix of "Reelin' in the Years", with all of those extra guitar fills. Absolutely love this.
Too many favourites to choose one. Reelin in the years Do it again Showbiz kids Rikki Don't Lose That Number Bad sneakers The Fez Deacon Blues Josie Babylon Sisters Time Out Of Mind I know that's too many, but it is also too few.... but the best trimming I could do, with today's mindset, left me with those.
These are currently my three favorite Steely Dan songs, and the first album remains my favorite. Only A Fool Would Say That Do It Again Fire In The Hole
"Razorboy" It has all of my favorite aspects of a Steely Dan to it: a story painted in broad strokes leaving your imagination to provide the details, the frictionless production, the slight aloofness. And, as a bonus, it has a tune one could easily whistle while walking through the seedier parts of NYC, side-eyeing the scantilly-clad girls dancing in the cages of the strip clubs, wondering how don't freeze.
