Were there additional tracks recorded at those sessions? Neither I Love Music's recommended session site or either of my NKC books list session info for anything more than the just the 12 tracks on the LP. This seems odd, since there every recording session seemed to have extra/unused songs. I googled the Norberg CD and saw 6 extra tracks:

    The First Baseball Game
    This Holy Love
    Peace Of Mind
    Easter Sunday Morning
    Believe
    The Lighthouse In The Sky

Presumably these are from the same sessions. Did Norberg use the original session/master tapes, or subsequent generation tapes for the bonus tracks? If they never had a previous release one would think they would be original session tapes.

Those are not from the same sessions.

Nor did Norberg master those for the CC disc.

Is this from Purdue Universtiy, West Lafayette, IN? If so, Since Purdue is my alma mater, I'd be interested to know what brought them there.

IIRC, it was just a tour across the midwest, and I think they played a fair amount of colleges.

That Elliot Music Hall (or whatever it's called....something like that, anyway, with apologies for my forgetfulness) looks like quite the place!

By the way, I stopped at "Bargain CDs" on the way home from church today, and lo and behold, they had a D2/D3 stereo pressing, so I picked it up, and I'm just hearing it for the first time, but this is NOTHING like that Norberg-ized monstrosity. Nothing like it! The LP sounds like, what's the word.....MUSIC. (Still an odd recording style, don't get me wrong, but the LP breathes and ebbs and flows compared to that Norberg thing.)

The Gospel album? You're playing it? Be sure to FLIP ONE PAIR OF WIRES ON YOUR SPEAKER, EITHER RIGHT OR LEFT. Don't forget to flip back when done playing!

Yeah, I'm dumping it into ProTools as it plays so I can tinker with the phase stuff and see what's going on. :)

Ignore track one and 12 and on track 2 to 11, rebalance so NAT'S VOICE is in exact center with phase flipped.

Do we know an actual release date for the LP? Looks like maybe Late September or early October, 1959? Maybe held up because of the glut of NKC product in '58?

It's amazing, I was listening to this album this morning, the Collector's Choice CD and it doesn't sound that bad. Nat's voice is kinda off to the right just a tad, well to my ears that's what it sounds like. This discussion is incredibly fun to read, lots of good info. Anybody know who mastered the Collector's Choice CD, of course they wouldn't take the time to print that on the back jewel case slip.

Wow. Nothing whatsoever in Billboard until Aug. 31, 1959. Here's the entry in the "New Release Spotlight" from October '59:

The Marquis Restaurant in Los Angeles/Hollywood was the site of a private party to preview the album. That was on August 14th.

That's sourced from the Bear Family set. Jurgen Crasser's mastering.

Well, here's track 2 from the original stereo LP, balanced for "vocal centered" and summed to mono, but WITHOUT flipping phase! Listen:

Isn't 1958 the year that Nat released seven new albums? I suspect that may have been the hold up.

Recorded seven, plus dozens of singles. An album recorded a month after the gospel set didn't get released until '60. Things just got backed up, new projects took precedence, etc. etc.
