Hi everyone. I'm looking for a type of HDMI adapter, that has HDMI input on one side, and then HDMI output with 3.5mm jack output on the other side. This is to use a computer monitor as a display, but then route the audio to a small sound system. The computer monitor does not have speakers. Anything like that available? Thanks.

    I have this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BIQER0E/

Not 3.5mm, but RCA which can be converted with a $1 adapter.

Do these HDMI to RCA audio extractors actually just extract or degrade the signal? I guess they all have some low quality DAC

Yes. It must be. I would use the coax/optical output of the extractor and then another DAC, but there would be too many boxes

I thought analog output from HDMI was illegal under the DCMA? Are these devices “pirate” technology?
