Perfect quote for the time! One of my all-time hero’s on the kit. He will be sorely missed.... but his legacy can be enjoyed for many years to come.
I just listened to "The Anarchist" on the way to work this morning, wondering if he'd ever get the itch to give it another go. Now I am truly sad.
He did everything right even this. So now we know why they stopped. So unfair RIP NP you are the best !
His book Ghost Rider shone a light into how he would grasp the loss of his daughter then his wife, but I always wondered how he went on. Heartbreak. RIP
There are no words. I just saw this in the library on their computer and burst into tears. Much of the musical community of Toronto in and around my age group (60) is shocked and in mourning. We loved Neil. "When I heard that you were gone I felt a shadow cross my heart" (1993) RIP Sir; we'll really miss you.
I legitimately gasped and cursed out loud at work. Gonna spin some Rush on my way home. Rest easy, Neil – you deserve it. edit: When I was younger, I took drum lessons from a really great drummer who had a giant Neil Peart poster on the wall – it was taken probably circa 1989 or 1990, and it was Neil behind his massive drum set on a platform in the water. I was always in awe of that photo. When I would drum along to music, I occasionally tried to drum along to some of Rush's stuff, but it was impossible; trying to do that drum solo in 'Tom Sawyer' exhausted me, and I'm sure I enraged my mom whenever I'd try to tackle 'YYZ'.
Absolutely awful news. I sincerely hope he was able to at least enjoy some of his time with this wife and young daughter after retiring from touring. After the tragedies he had been through, he deserved a much longer time with them. Power Windows and Grace Under Pressure were, and still are, powerful albums for me, as they helped me through the time when my Mom had brain cancer. I'll be listening to those many times this weekend. And others. Devastating news. R.I.P.
A giant has left us. It's almost like his life mirrored the very real hardships of one of the characters he conjured forth in his lyrics. A formative influence on many and a man of great character and determination. He transcended the lowly trappings of the rock star and became something greater. He sure packed a lot in, leaving small town Ontario at a young age to find work drumming in the promised land, touring the world over, rocking a handlebar moustache and silk robes, epic bike trips both peddle and motor, writing books and thrilling millions with his drumming. I can't count the times I've rocked back and forth enthralled listening to one of his many drum performances forever burned into my memory. Thank you Neil for making things better.
This is pretty damn shocking news! Very sad to hear. The guy dealt with a lot of tragedy in his life. R.I.P. Professor
