Shocked and stunned. This reminds me of when I read that Bowie passed....2 very private men who only wanted close family and friends to know I guess. He gave us 40 years of amazing music.

Wow, I am in shock. What a huge loss. Neil was always a private guy so its no surprise it was kept quiet. The man had to suffer a lot in life, an amazing talent but it must of been hard.

    Wow that sucks. Very sad.

I'm pretty sure though that this was not the reason that Rush ended but was because he had issues with is back and arthritis.

Oh damn, was this public knowledge that he was sick? I had no idea. I adore his drumming and so many of his lyrics.

I know Neil was a private person which makes this all seem so sudden - but I truly hope his last few years were as peaceful as possibly can be.

Thank you Neil for inspiring an incalculable amount of musicians to try and master any bit of pure genius you put into the airwaves.

And thank you Neil, as well as Geddy and Alex for making music your way the entire time

I'm going home tonight and am playing the Rock Band video game drums on the entire Moving Pictures album in his honor. Goodbye, Neil. What an incredible drummer.

Very sad and I wasn't aware. He is an amazing drummer and lyricist, one of the best. I believe he had a very difficult personal life too.

A terrible loss for Canada as well. RIP friend

Wow, this was a bolt out of the blue. The single best drummer I ever saw and one of the best lyricist rock ever produced.

One of my few heroes I had the joy of meeting him several times....much misunderstood individual in terms of the fan relationship. The memories will live with me forever the best live drummer I ever saw and I don't care if he changed his technique etc...that guy I saw hitting drums in the late 70's and early 80's was unique.

    God bless you Neil Peart.

Wow. I’m not surprised he kept it private as that was his nature, but I am completely stunned. The best of the best. Awful news, just awful.

I can't even begin to put into words the impact this man had on my life, not only as a drummer myself, but on my love of music in general. I am stunned but not surprised he was keeping his battle quiet as he was such a private guy. Deepest sympathies to his family and to Geddy and Alex.
