Oh no! What incredibly sad news. Neil Peart was one of my absolute musical heroes. From the first time I ever put the needle down on a Rush album back in 1975, he was my favorite drummer...and an amazing lyricist as well. So talented, so intelligent. R.I.P.
I'm devastated. Poor Neil had so much personal tragedy over the years. I sincerely hope he had plenty of joy to even things out. Just a horrible thing to read about. RIP Neil Peart. There will never be another like him. Another childhood idol gone.
Neil had been through so much too... losing a daughter and his first wife back-to-back in the late 90s. He was resilient and came back from those loses. His resilience against those loses was something I always found to be inspiring. I'm sure he fought hard against this too. I'm not a big Rush fan, but I do like their last few albums and liked Peart's work with Vertical Horizon as well.
Damn. Extraordinary drummer and a fearsomely intelligent and just plain nice guy. I'd go so far as to say he's the most influential rock drummer on other drummers there is. In terms of technical chops Neil was the man.
Credit to the tweeter John Moe, John Moe on Twitter "In my high school, everyone’s rock preferences were splintered. Ozzy fans argued with Def Leppard fans who fought with Scorpions fans. “Neil Peart, though,” someone could say. “Oh, yeah,” all agreed. “Neil Peart.”"
Terribly sad news. Rush was a huge influence on me and I still listen to them all of the time. All I can do is play Signals. RIP, Professor.
This really came out of nowhere - how sad! RIP Neil. Will be listening to a lot of Rush this weekend (of course, I did last weekend too!)
One of the greatest rock drummers I've ever heard. And I always appreciated how he stuck up for the young folks in his lyrics. RIP
