I was hoping that doing a song of two acoustically after the drum solo would become the norm after they tried it on the VT tour, and then did just Resist again on the R30 tour, but alas it was not to be.
Probably been about 20 years since I pulled out that video. I imagine it was a lot of fun being there and seeing the "A Show of Fans" people. Neil didn't look all that comfortable, but he was a good sport about it. Those pizzas were kind of funny.
I got about 5 paragraphs into that article before watering up and unable to read any further. I'll try revisiting it next month.
I spent the last few days reading through all 65 pages of this thread, and so much has already been said. Like a lot of people, Neil's passing hit me very hard. It's the only time I can ever recall crying at the news of a "celebrity's" passing. I've been a fan for over 30 years, and at some very hard times in my life, Rush was there for me. It felt like I lost a friend. At times it was the lyrics to Time Stand Still, or The Analog Kid, that I turned to for comfort. When my cousin was killed in a workplace shooting, the lyrics to Afterimage really helped me get through. When I was going through a very difficult year where I was honestly contemplating ending things, it was the lyrics to Marathon that spoke to me, and helped pull me through to the other side. It is not a stretch to say that the lyrics to Marathon saved my life. I swear I listened to that song over and over, thousands of times, and it just kept getting me through day by day. My life has changed completely since then, and about 10 days after Neil's passing I ran in my first actual Marathon. I wore a Rush Farewell to Kings shirt in the race as a little tribute. Farewell, Mr. Peart. You touched my life in ways I could never thank you for. May you rest in peace. It's not how fast you can go The force goes into the flow If you pick up the beat You can forget about the heat More than just survival More than just a flash More than just a dotted line More than just a dash It's a test of ultimate will The heartbreak climb uphill Got to pick up the pace If you want to stay in the race More than just blind ambition More than just simple greed More than just a finish line Must feed this burning need In the long run From first to last The peak is never passed Something always fires the light That gets in your eyes One moment's high And glory rolls on by Like a streak of lightning That flashes and fades In the summer sky Your meters may overload You can rest at the side of the road You can miss a stride But nobody gets a free ride More than high performance More than just a spark More than just the bottom line Or a lucky shot in the dark In the long run You can do a lot in a lifetime If you don't burn out too fast You can make the most of the distance First you need endurance First you've got to last
Great article, but, sad and funny at the same time, he cites "Best I Can" - written by Geddy Lee - as a lyrical highlight!
Can I also echo everyone's sentiments about this article. I've not really read much, if any, articles so far - preferring to read and share the thoughts of fans, and what Rush's music has meant to them. But this article sets a high bar for others to follow - impassioned, rational, focussed and objective, respectful, and sincere. Thank you for sharing.
Clockwork angels is an amazing album to me,also I think Snakes and Arrows is so underated honestly.i think its the best of rushs later career albums right behind clockwork angels.it just has a few to many songs that would make it a classic. i think roll the bones and presto are underated also.the one i hate is vapor trails.counterparts and test for echo and hold your fire i can put up with cause they all have a few good songs.
I REALLY like Presto, honestly one of my favorite Rush albums - the only thing that holds it back is it's thin sounding production.
i know man!Presto is one of my favorites also.grace under pressure for me also! i wish presto can get a real remix.i think roll the bones would have a better responce if it got a right remix also.
GREAT SONG OFF AN AWESOME ALBUM!Another underated Rush album to me.def has a 80s album sound but i got use to it. but great music, lyrics and playing.
Presto was the first tour I saw Rush in concert. Ended up in the 10th row somehow. That record and show hold a special place in my heart. I was in high school at the time.
It is archived in at least two places. I did a search for my name in the archive and I’m all over it! Funny thing is that I remember writing some of those posts (emails) just like it was yesterday!
Listening to Moving Pictures for the first time since the sad news. No river! One of my best Rush memories is their performance of "Camera Eye" on the Time Machine tour.
